ilnamParticipant
were you doing burn outs?
ilnamParticipantjust curious, but how slippery were the tires when you first bought the duc? is scrubbing the tires a real issue?
ilnamParticipantmy chain had too much slack, so I checked the manual for increasing the tension. It was not the erector set instructions that I was used to. I figured this is pretty basic maintenance, but I suck. I looked for a service manual for my 07 gs500f, but the ones online are for ’89 – ’06. I’m not sure what’s up with the ’07 and ’08, but there was only one site that listed an ’07 manual, and I wasn’t sure if that was correct or just their typo. So I guess I can call a dealer and get one from them right? I went back to the OM and the instructions regarding cotter pin, axle nuts, and inline sprockets (with no pictures) still seemed too complex for me. It’s currently with the mechanic, but how doable is?
ilnamParticipantI’ve been contemplating using my iPod for trips of about 180 miles on the interstate. I would most likely be listening to NPR podcasts, but I can see this being potentially more dangerous than music. Music is in the background more for me, while NPR and ebooks take more of my concentration. This is exactly what Rab was saying about the cost of our brains processing power. I know my brain is huge, but my concentration is a finite thing I’ll wait to try this when I have more experience.
ilnamParticipanttake it easy! you’ll be going around it at 40mph in no time and pretty soon 60mph right? And consider recording it for us to see.
ilnamParticipantor let’s see the coords on google maps. anyway, I’m glad you’re okay! was this a group ride?
ilnamParticipantYou didn’t review these yet, but I think you mentioned them at some point in a post.

Anyway, I’m eager to go home and investigate the problem more thoroughly. Although, with the temperatures dropping, I’ll be looking for a pair of warmer gloves too. Perhaps SBL can sew/knit/tailor/embroider me a real nice pair with sweet liners.ilnamParticipantBen, I tried those Shift Hybrid gloves for $30. For some reason the outside knuckle guard on the right glove “pokes” my hand and can be quite uncomfortable. Ever experience that? I have no issue with the left one, so maybe my right hand is just a bit larger than the other?
ilnamParticipant3 dealers in the Chicago area were selling 08! Ninjas for $5200. It would then make sense for the 09s to be going for $5700 here.
ilnamParticipant$4,400? That sounds really good to me if that’s all it costs. After all, the ’09s are up $500 from 08. I looked at getting a new 08 a couple months ago and it was $5,200 OTD at the dealers around here! One more thing, you can adjust the seat height a little bit.
ilnamParticipantI like the specific guidelines here. Think these numbers are good for a GS500 as well? BTW I idle at 1200
ilnamParticipantI’ve been in Illinois and Michigan my whole life and haven’t heard this. I’d start using it myself…but “yens?” Nope – just can’t get myself to do it.
ilnamParticipantI was in Seattle for 5 days last week, and I did Not see you
ilnamParticipantweird. I just posted today how my bike fell over in my driveway. Well, when I got it started again I noticed my choke is working a lot better. Maybe all anyone’s bike needs is a good shove.
ilnamParticipantIt’s about time I ask what this “slow race” is? I’ve heard it mentioned several times now, but what are you referring to exactly? Slow speed with both feet on pegs? congrats on the 500 milestone!
