the other people are being babies. or at least silly silly children.
I started a thread a while ago on bad advice given to me. some advice you’ll get is pretty darn scary. ride what you ride and be happy, it’s not their business what you ride (that being said, you pick up a liter bike, as rannette knows, we’ll lay into you a bit, but only out of concern for your safety) it’s not your responsibility to somehow make THEM look cool with a bigger bike.

October 1, 2008 at 11:28 pm #13137LokiParticipantI would comment about the topic but it seems to be solved already. So for a question.
Wtf are yens? Are they friends?October 2, 2008 at 12:12 am #13139WeaponZeroParticipantyens is a midwestern word thats used as an alternative to “y’all” or “you” when speaking in plurals . . pittsburgh people like to think its a strictly pittsburgh thing but its used all over the midwest
October 2, 2008 at 3:27 am #13149MunchParticipantI thought Yens were currency…. You-ins……now thats another ball of wax.
Yesterday is a memory, tomorrow is a prediction, but today…… is a Bi**h
October 2, 2008 at 5:19 am #13158AnonymousGuestI get the feeling you must be a bit younger? Probably in your early 20’s? Reason I say this is because when you get closer to 30(26 or older normaly) you start worrying LESS about what other people think you should have or be doing and worrying/thinking more about what YOU want to do to make YOURSELF happy..are you getting a Motorcycle to make the people around you happy or to make YOU happy. I mean honestly …are you that worried about what other people think or their oppinions of you and what you ride or are you willing to do what YOU want to do becuase YOU want to do it. When I got a 250 people that knew I was getting a bike said the same thing..I could care less what they think/thought…know why? cause they were wrong I like the 250 Ninja and its plenty of bike for me and does everything I want it to do. I honestly dont even know if I will upgrade…I just dont really need anything bigger to be honest…I didnt worry about what they guys at work thought…mostly because I dont really care what they think that I should be getting. But then again I was never really one of those peer pressure caver-inners(new word) I looked, did research, then bought what I thought best for me..not what someone else thought was best for me.
October 2, 2008 at 1:48 pm #13168ilnamParticipantI’ve been in Illinois and Michigan my whole life and haven’t heard this. I’d start using it myself…but “yens?” Nope – just can’t get myself to do it.
October 2, 2008 at 7:00 pm #13187BiancaGuestI am 30 and peer pressure was never an issue. What I said was that they were annoying me to the point where they were taking the join out of me wanting to persue riding. You must didn’t read my rant because I clearly stated that my safety is my responsiblity not no one else and that I could care less with what they thought. It was pissing me off that they were getting upset because I wanted to buy an 250. These “friends” of mines were arguing with me and yes it becomes frustrating whether you’re 20, 30, or 40. I was just ranting, but thanks for your post.
On another note, I had my first class yesterday and I am so excited! Thank you guys for the positive feedback. I am so happy that I didn’t change my mind. Even though another “friend” said that if I get the 250 ppl will laugh at me. I told him that they can kiss my a%$ because I’,m riding for me and me only. My partner and I snuck to the motorcycle acc shop and they had some bikes there. I sat on an 04 ninja 250 and my feet barely touched the floor; I was on my tip toes. = ) I wanted to ride out of there. He wanted $2300 for it but I told my partner that if I add on another $1000 I can get the 08 that I want. It’s green and I really wanted the red one so I’m going to keep shopping around and cross my fingers that I’ll find a red one. My next class is Saturday and I can’t wait = ) My class mates seem really nice and most if them have rode before and own bikes. I better get back to work, my supervisor is nutts sometimes.
October 2, 2008 at 7:07 pm #13188eonParticipantI’m glad you are sticking to your guns and are enjoying yourself, that’s what it’s all about.
I’m not sure you will be able to get an 08 Ninja 250 for $3300 though. People were paying on average around $4500 out the door this summer for them. You can probably get an ’07 for that kind of money. If you do see an ’08 at that price make sure to check it has not been banged up.October 2, 2008 at 7:16 pm #13190BiancaGuestI went on craigslist and this guy is selling his 08 250r green ninja because he needs the money for school. He said that it’s never been dropped, if it hasn’t do you think I should get it? It has 4500 miles on it. I don’t want to pass up a great deal. My friend can ride it home for me. I didn’t realize that a used one would be as much as a new one. The dealer that I spoke to said that I won’t be able to find an 09 anywhere, that all the dealerships are putting in their orders and if I want one that I need to pick out my color and give him an 100 deposit. What do you think? I will be storing the bike at my mothers because my truck takes up too much space in mines.
Oh, and I knew someone were going to ask about “yens” that’s why I said it. LOL. = )
October 2, 2008 at 7:28 pm #13193WeaponZeroParticipantI think that definately its worth looking into, because 4500 miles never dropped is still basically brand new for all intents and purposes. Also, starting out on a 250 may not impress the squidly little bastards but riders who have their head screwed on right will admire you for it.
October 2, 2008 at 8:29 pm #13199eonParticipantI would say go for it as well. Prices vary a lot across the country plus the riding season is about over so maybe that kind of price is to be expected now. If it is the bike you want at a price you are happy with then I would get it (assuming it is in good condition).
October 3, 2008 at 12:28 am #13215BiancaGuestplease, I just came home from the bike store. My frd took me because he got his bike from there. I sat on 07 ninja 250 and I was on my tip toes( I had on tennis shoes, my frd eyes popped out of his beany head because he kept talking about me getting the 600 all the way to the store) then I sat on an 600(just so my frd could shut the f$%k up) and I couldn’t even lean it. It was heavy and my feet were just hanging (he was holding the bike up for me). The sales guy was nice and he said the 09 will be 4000 and 400 for….omg, I forgot what he said….I think finders fee, maybe stock fee, oooh don’t quote me but I know I was thinking wtf why do I have to pay that? He said that he wasn’t sure when they were going to be delivered and that they go fast. If the green bike don’t work out should I buy new? They didn’t try to talk me into getting something that didn’t fit me (I’ve heard that they can be pushy) and the were really nice. I sat on a blue scooter too and my feet barely reached the floor.
October 3, 2008 at 12:33 am #13216BiancaGuestWZ, Amoryl, I missed your post…..thank u…..I need tuff love sometimes and all of you have been truly wonderful.
