I would have ran over and checked on the bike first. I think you’ll enjoy this one just as much. New rider, target fixation and hilarity: http://youtube.com/watch?v=pXfM4tbx9nY . This one really has replay value, you just won’t get tired of seeing it.
I love break.com.
acidpopeParticipantDouble yellow in my state means no passing. Wait, it means that in every state. Every turn I was just waiting for the KTM guy to get plowed by oncoming traffic with him riding the line and going over it so much. Other than that it was a nice video of a nice road and it looks like the 250 would be alot of fun on it.
acidpopeParticipantYea, I’ve taken to just slowly letting my clutch out all the way and it goes plenty fast enough to have my feet off the ground and do all my turns without any throttle for parking lot stuff.
acidpopeParticipantYou should be able to walk into any bike shop that sells helmets in the states and find HJC, and they’re pretty good helmets. Most are both DOT & Snell approved. I have a HJC CL-SP and it fits very nice, almost like it was built around my head. I do need to get a doo-rag though. After wearing it for a short while if I take it off my forehead looks like a Klingon.
acidpopeParticipantI know over in europe and the uk, where gas prices have been higher than ours forever it seems (our high gas prices are still lower than their low prices), they’ve been using them as year round commuters for awhile. Not sure if any people across the pond read this site, but maybe find a forum with uk riders and ask.
acidpopeParticipantThe sv650s (fairing version) looks great. The riding position for it has you leaning considerably forward though. Unless you’re comfortable with that, I’d go with the regular sv650 standard with the more upright position. The GSX650f has a riding position that is more upright like the sv650 standard, but it’s a bit on the heavy side pushing 500lbs wet (just as a comparison, the sv650s with fairings is around 400lbs wet. That’s 100lbs more!), plus it’s an in-line four.
acidpopeParticipantI think this is one of the great things about biking, and something that draws people to it. You don’t see people meeting up in cars to go out riding. You don’t see people in cars waving to people they don’t know as they pass them. When you get a bike, it’s like you’re joining a big club, even if you aren’t officially in a biking club or community like the AMA. I’m really looking forward to doing stuff like this.
acidpopeParticipantI’d check out the Ninja 500 or the GS500F. With a 33″ inseam you should be able to flat foot most bikes, including the previously mentioned ones. If you’re riding with your buds I’d let them know exactly just what your skill level is, so they don’t ask or expect you to bite off more than you can chew.
acidpopeParticipantThe suspension on most bikes can be adjusted. As for the idling, it sounds as if the choke needs adjusting.
acidpopeParticipantI’m not having much trouble with low speed maneuvering. The thing I’m being bugged by is my bike is not too happy going slow and going real slow in 1st and 2nd and only giving it little throttle makes it want to buck (more 1st than 2nd). Once I let up on the throttle in 1st the engine braking kicks in heavy, even going at it’s slowest.
acidpopeParticipantYou can buy smaller mirrors that sit in the upper outside corners of your mirrors from basically any automotive section in most stores. It will extend your vision, but the distance in the added mirrors will be a little off. Still, better to see something you wouldn’t normally see.
acidpopeParticipantGot on my new bike for the first time today. (Got the bike home and the forcast was rain for like seven days, finally had a small break in it.) I have to say the toughest thing is not looking at your bike when you’re riding. Shouldn’t be too tough to fix though.
acidpopeParticipantDamn! You basically got a new bike for half the price and it’s out of the break in milage. Grats.
acidpopeParticipantMy buddy from work always wears his helmet when he’s riding quads. Other day he rode without one because he was just going up the trail a short ways, guess what happened? Now he’s got a nice scar on the top front of his head. He’s lucky he didn’t crack his head wide open. Always wear a helmet, even if you’re just going down the road.
acidpopeParticipantPicked up a dark smoke visor for my helmet from the local for 25$.
