ParticipantThat sounds like a fun little trip. A little further west than I usually venture in Oklahoma, but that part of the state is still beautiful.
Those highways are one thing that I miss about Oklahoma. My mom and I took 51 from Tulsa to Stillwater in her Miata when I was home earlier this summer and that was wonderful.

ParticipantThe other benefit on item 4 is that is you already keep a comfortable safety cushion, watching the brake lights of the driver ahead of the one directly in front of you can help you gauge wether the guy directly in front of you is riding his brakes because he is tailgating. I spend alot less time on my brakes now that I have figured that trick out.

ParticipantI second Elwood on all points. It sounds like you had a wonderful ride. I always love seeing rainbows. They’re only a girl thing if you are drawing them with crayons.
Also, I have a little Nikon Coolpix point and shoot. It takes great pictures, requires AA batteries, and is really easy to use. I carry it everywhere and love it. The fact that it hasn’t died under the abuse it gets in my bag is saying something…

ParticipantSaftyFirst & Jammer,
Good luck to you both this weekend. Let us know how it goes!

ParticipantCandice, I have great empathy with you. I had two close calls yesterday in my car. The first one would have just ruined my day, the second one could have killed someone. It is nothing short of a miracle that nobody got hit on the second one. Both times the drivers in vehicles behind me were not paying attention to what was happening in front of them. I won’t be forgetting either incident anytime soon.
I’m glad you are safe and that you shared your experience with us.

ParticipantThanks.

ParticipantI had always known that some road have really high crowns, but until I saw the demo with Fender, I didn’t realize just how high they are.

ParticipantGlad to hear that the class went well. Bummer on the road spill taking the curve. That is not a cool thing to do to people just learning to countersteer. We had a gravelly area in the lot where I did my course, and even though we weren’t actually practicing any techniques in the spot, we still had a couple people have issues while they were queuing up for the exercises.

ParticipantAll the more reason to put the work into it to make it a solid and balanced report.
And in the end, even if they tell you you can’t get a bike now, in a few years, you will be able to make your own choices.

ParticipantWelcome and good luck with the class!

ParticipantSlab – Highway
Superslab – divided highway with 4 or more lanesSquid – Generally I think of this as someone who engages in unsafe riding behaviors, though I do not think that not going ATGATT is necessarily indicative of squidishness. Also, I think that this may have an origin in military slang- can someone confirm?
Lid – half helmet
Shortie – half helmet
BRC – Basic Rider Course
MSF – Motorcycle safety foundation
Geezerglide – ? I think that Elwood said this was an HD Ultraglide?
