The promise of a Rainbow…

Well for the past 2 weeks or so we have been under the typical hot, humid, chance of t-storms pattern. Since I ride rain or shine it didn’t matter one way or another. However today was nice and interesting… half way to the house from work I was running down the super slab, cruising and just enjoying being off the clock. It was very hot and humid and my NJK textile breathes…. but it still gets hot under there. I was looking around enjoying the scenery and the clouds around me when I look up in front of me and there it is… a HUGE vivid rainbow. I know… not a manly thing, but hey rainbows are very awesome to me. While I was cruisin’ I was just taking it all in and caught the idea of how like a post card picture it would be. Me… on my scoot… camera shot from behind and this huge gorgeous rainbow. Then my mind kinda slides into memories of a kid when I learn that rainbows are “Gods promise of a new day and new beginning” …. well lets just leave it at that, not wanting any religion debates. Anyway, just kinda enjoying the moment and it was a quick one as it suddenly grabs my attention…. Ut oh!, real world dictates that a rainbow means… RAIN! LOL…. no worries back off the throttle and quick glances at the cagers beside me giving me that ” you know it’s raining …right?” look. Always tickles the crap out of me. Their faces get really confused when you smile and wave. Back to the ride… now you all know I have been using my HJC 3/4 IS-33 helmet with the drop down “sun screen”. These things are very useful. Not for shades as it was intended due to very light tinting, but as a very convenient way of keeping the rain off my full time riding shades. Just a quick engagement of the sun screen and plow through the rain I go. Rain stops…. push button to retract, voila…instant clear vision. Like having a built in peel off. My draggin jeans got soaked much to my relief, I’ve been turning wrenches all day in this hot, humid soup and it felt good to have wet jeans, with slightly cooler 80 mph air to give me a nice bit of relief. Finally after coming out of the rain and a few more turns on the road… the rain shifted away and I got into some small sprinkles, but the cool part was , the newer rainbow from the sprinkles had it just over top of me! If I could have stayed straight it would have been the second time in my life driving under/through a rainbow!
Now when in a cage have you ever had the pleasure of seeing a full on rainbow from one side to the other and all the clouds around in all their glory! Man… what a ride! Now if I had Elwoods camera…. I coulda shared, guess I need to get me a water proof point and shoot.August 16, 2009 at 7:02 pm #21642owlieParticipantI second Elwood on all points. It sounds like you had a wonderful ride. I always love seeing rainbows. They’re only a girl thing if you are drawing them with crayons.
Also, I have a little Nikon Coolpix point and shoot. It takes great pictures, requires AA batteries, and is really easy to use. I carry it everywhere and love it. The fact that it hasn’t died under the abuse it gets in my bag is saying something…

I don’t remember where I saw this on t.v., but there is a place where the ground is below sea level, and when a rainbow forms there, it not only forms the arc, it goes all around and completes a full circule. That would be very fascinating to see.
