Heya,
Sorry to hear that you are having to give up your motorcycle. Hopefully the catastrophe was only for your bike and not for you too.
The forums will keep the website alive until you decide to come back into it.
Best,
OwlieowlieParticipantOur state fair hasn’t started either. That’s just the sign. Soo… if you’re fair grounds have a permanent sign (or even a temp sign advertising…) you should be good.

And I love how as soon as I killed the CoG argument, they came up with new and exciting terms to try to show how their arguments are correct…

The rest of you are misapplying concepts to arrive at observed phenomenon. Nobody is saying that certain techniques don’t result in certain outcomes, but if it has been more than six months since you took Physics 201, trust me, Eternal and Eon are correct.
2) If we get into a countersteering debate, I’m running the other way screaming. I was sooo excited when I read Hough’s description of it, until I got about 1/2 through it and he suddenly started spouting the same drivel as everyone else…
owlieParticipantAs long as your sweetie doesn’t do what mine did…
I told him I really wanted saddle bags for my birthday, even sent him some links so he didn’t have to worry about getting the wrong size, and what did he do? He went out and bought me a gear bag for BJJ.
I guess that he would rather me spend time rolling around with other men than riding a motorcycle.
… I still don’t have saddle bags …
owlieParticipantDoes it have to be snow capped or simply still have snow on it? I may be stuck waiting for termination dust if I can’t make the ride to Chilitna on a clear day…
owlieParticipantBack up your computer my friend- harddrive crashes happen to the best of ’em.
owlieParticipantOklahoma beer is near beer- there is a state mandated 3.25% limit on the alcohol content… Personally I can’t stand the stuff (near beer or the real thing).
And your pictures of Alberta do remind me a lot of rural Oklahoma- just replace the canola with corn… Add on top the fantastic thunder storms you mentioned in an earlier post- it makes me homesick.
owlieParticipantNot really planning any big rides. I’d like to ride up to Chilitna, but the season has been so wet that I don’t really feel like spending 8 hours on a bike to not see Mt. McKinley.
As for a riding buddy, I know the feeling- but I may have a solution soon. One of my friends told me last weekend that he totally wants to learn to ride a motorcycle but he would never do it by himself. He didn’t know I ride (okay, so I’m shy about it! I admit it!) or I think that would have come out last year when I was thinking about picking it up. So, we are signed up for the BRC at the beginning of August. We’ll see where that takes us.
In the meantime, I finally got my courage up to take the road up to Hatcher Pass- then I chickened out at the Motherload and turned around. *sigh* This afternoon, I think I’m going to go out and do Knik River road. I went to do it last fall, but when I got within about 1/2mi of the river, it was so freaking cold that I turned around. I have better gear, and the day is warm sunny…
owlieParticipantHaven’t had a chance to watch the shows yet though they sound interesting, but I will say this…
Oklahoma has its own kind of beauty. From the rolling terrain of the Ozarks to the desert scrub of the panhandle, the diversity of flora and wildlife is incredible. However, it something that not everyone appreciates. In the summer it tends to be hot, humid and brown and in the winter it is cold, windy and brown.
For those of us used to the lush greenness of the pacific northwest, it pales in comparison.
And if you don’t agree with that- consider that for most of America, Route 66 is the only positive thing they know about the state. Otherwise, it is a bunch of rednecks who go to rodeos and tractor pulls, eat BBQ, and don’t have the good sense to drink real beer- though they drink plenty of the stuff that they call beer.
owlieParticipantDude, I totally feel cheated now! Gotta plan another trip to Seattle….
owlieParticipant+1 – very true that gear doesn’t make the rider.
owlieParticipantOkay, so while it always bothers me (and has for years- even before I knew anything about riding gear), at least now I know what’s going on. In Alaska, there is no helmet law for the driver, but there is for the pillion passenger. I can only assume that these guys are carrying the unused helmet for their girlfriends (or simply hoping to get lucky). Doesn’t make them any smarter, but it is something of an explanation.
