Plug all the idiots into their Ipods and let them get lost in the internet while we the sensible wander as outcasts and memorize passages from famous books to pass onto future generations once the politically correct powerful self-implode the country.

Anyone interested in a Fahrenheit 451 reading group? ;)

Don’t know anything about Florida registrations, so take what follows with a grain of salt…

Typically, the lienholder will be shown on both the Title and the Registration. Some states (such as Alaska) allow the lienholder to hold the physical title until the lien is satisfied. Others don’t (such as Oklahoma).

If there is a lienholder listed, make sure that either 1) the lienholder has signed off on the title releasing the lien or 2) the sell provides a letter from the lienholder releasing the lien with the title (should be on letter head, and possibly notarized).

Other than that, the only thing you need to do is make sure the seller signs the back of the title. You can probably fill in the rest of it yourself.

Your best bet is to ask your local DMV. They can tell you what it takes to transfer the title and registration, how to find out if there is a lien on the vehicle and what is needed to prove that to them that the lien has been satisfied.

For the fun stories, find someone who handles registrations for a local dealership.

I was out of town last week and missed the one you mentioned above, but there have been two riders killed this week (one outside of Fairbanks and one in Sutton). I passed another motorcycle accident as I was leaving work yesterday. It looked like the rider was conscious, not sure if he was wearing a helmet. I didn’t see anything about it in the paper today…

Bad deal. Kiss your kids and ride safe y’all.

Thought I would take a minute to post what I found.

    The ABATE group:
    $275, 12 students, 2-3 instructors
Meets Friday evenings for a classroom session with two four hour driving sessions on Saturday and Sunday. They assign appropriate bikes to riders rather than allowing riders to pick their own.

    The H-D dealer
    $345, 6 students, 2 instructors
Meets for Mon-Wed or Thurs-Sat for 8 hours each day.

What I also found interesting is that the HD class is booked until mid-July, but the ABATE class isn’t even half full for the weekend after next.

Both of the gentlemen that I contacted were very helpful and happy to answer my pesky questions.

So, I’m signed up with the ABATE group for classes in July (finally-I’ve only been talking about it for a couple months). I like the idea of the smaller class size and more instruction with HD, but I would have a hard time taking the time off work. I’d love to take the class sooner, but the big “R” (responsibility) word is in my way.

    Later!

Thanks for the suggestions. And the inner ear thing really is a pain, isn’t it? :)

I already had my eye on Proficient Motorcycling, and I’ll definitely be sure to check out Twist of the Wrist also.

Every winter I deny the possiblity that I will fall on the ice. I have yet to have a winter go by where I don’t. The unfortunate thing is that when you fall on the ice, it happens so quickly that you don’t remember the actual fall.

I would imagine that the same occurs in riding, that there may be a time when you lose control of your bike so quickly that there was never even a question of mindset.

However, I agree with Elwood, laundry detergent is cheaper than new duds. :)

Honestly, while I like my skin and skull in one piece, I can understand how feeling the wind in your hair and the sun on your shoulders while your cruising down the highway can give you a certain sense of exhilaration and freedom.

However, being somewhat vain of my unremarkable good looks, I want neither the annoyance of working the rats out of my hair, or the lifelong task of covering up road rash scars on my face. ;)

As Munch points out, the problem is that you are isolated from ground. If lightening hits your car, the electrical charge stays on the exterior of your car (ever been shocked getting out of your car?). In the case of a motorcycle, there is no exterior- just you. ;)

“WARNING this page is not suitable for little ones, the prude, or…. well ….ummm…. censoring types.”

So, obviously, we all have to immediately run website to check it out! :)

I’ve seen worse on CNBC. But I guess if your bosses monitor your web usage closely, it would be questionable. :)

Thanks for the link btw. With all the pictures of sexy biker chicks, I was beginning to wonder if the made women’s gear in sizes larger than 6.

I know about the seen soooo many bikes around thing… I haven’t seen any packs out yet, but the season is early… The worst part is when I walk out to get my morning cuppa joe and there are three, count them three bikes parked right in front of the building. :(

Good luck in the MSF class!

Personally, I always get a little jolt of sadistic glee when I stop for a yellow and the driver behind me obviously was expecting to run the intersection with me. :) I haven’t been rear ended yet…

I guess this is one joy I’ll have to give up on a motorcycle. You guys think it’s worth it? ;)
