nau_lax21Participantyou might be getting yourself into some trouble with this one. The big deal breaker is the frame, id have it professionally looked at, and if theres ANY damage to the frame… walk away from that bike! that can be extremely dangerous to ride with a damaged frame. otherwise, if youre getting a hell of a deal on it, it might be worth it. if you do have problems down the line, things can get expensive.
but if your buddy is mechanically good with bikes and he thinks its all good, and there is NO frame damage, go for it.
others on this forum will tell you that the sv650 might be a little too powerful for a first bike. others say its great for a quick learner.
also, since you both know that this bike has seen some ugly days, use that as a bargaining point if you are going to go ahead and buy it.
best of luck!
nau_lax21ParticipantIm planning on hanging on to my gs500f until i finish college (spring 2011, hopefully) after that. At least right now, I really like the Ducati 848 and see that as a possible upgrade in the future. well see in a few years tho
nau_lax21Participantdunno about the 250, but ive got a gs500f and that works just fine 2up. like others have suggested you should wait AT LEAST 1000 miles, and more importantly, until you feel comfortable to ride 2up.
nau_lax21Participanti disagree with what these guys said. im up the 17 at nau, and we have about a million times more “adverse weather” than you. im doing just fine with just a bike. as long as youve got some friends with cars for the rare occasion you need one… there ya go.
just keep it away from mill ave on the weekends so you dont get flattened by someone going home from the bars.
nau_lax21Participanti think i might pick one of these up.
and what are you saying its cold in southern az for? im in flagstaff. so no complaining
nau_lax21Participantnot even close, i got the estimate today, 2200! theyre the only motorcycle shop around, so they charge what they want. i filed an insurance claim, so im not too worried.
this whole things a huge bummer, cant wait til i have a real garage.
by the way, its a 2007 gs500f.
nau_lax21Participanti currently have my first bike, a gs500f, and i dont think i would have wanted to start on anything smaller, just my opinion.
nau_lax21Participantagreed with ogre… you should take the msf class. youll probably learn a thing or two. you also (at least in ca) get a form upon completion of the class that bypasses you taking the riding portion of the test, you only have to take the written part to get your motorcycle endorsement on your license
November 4, 2008 at 6:51 am in reply to: favourite bikes (OMG someone lock away my credit cards !!!!) #14562nau_lax21Participantim thinking this r6s is my next bike, although its probably a year or so away. i REALLY like that daytona 675 triple earlier in the thread though
nau_lax21Participantwhat are throttle rockers??
nau_lax21ParticipantI agree with the other posts. You should definitely sign up for the first class that fits in your schedule/budget. If you found your way to this site and made a post you do have at least some interest in riding a motorcycle.
Worst case scenario… you don’t like riding, you drop the class. You have peace of mind knowing that riding isn’t your thing and you’re not wandering about it.
Best case scenario… you like riding, pass the class, and pick up something you’re gonna love for a long time.
Best of luck either way
nau_lax21Participantlil panhead of cracked craniums mc… lol
nau_lax21ParticipantI was going through some twisties in the forest a few weeks ago, and the local fire dept was doing controlled burns near the highway which brought all the little bugs into the road. my bike/helmet/jacket got COVERED by these little gnat-type bugs, some got on my neck and up on my chin. They didnt last through the impact, but they were still annoying.
