Smart of you to take your time and learn everything you can. It’s been probably about 15 years since I been out your way but I can only imagine what Charlotte has gotten like. Also side note… check the legal section in the forums.

Yup yup all good things to look for. Usually the biggest difference is with the Riders Edge that HD sponsors is the same basic program with some very small benefits at the end. The class is generally taught on the Buel Blast. And you get a “gift bag” at the end. In retro though they get a chance to try and snag you as a consumer. I am unsure if it’s dealer specific but where I took the riders edge they gave us 2 free rentals …1st a buel blast for a day then after that you get a day rental on one of their bigger cruisers/sportster. The Classes are typically small ..and it cost $$$. Not sure what your ABATE chapter offers.

I think lighter is more in reference to ease of turn and gettin around better in tight turns. Typically Cruisers are harder to do wheelies then sport bikes… however I think he misrepresented. I gotta wonder where the question line went and how his bonus for the month is set up.
Cruisers will have in some instances a more lower center of gravity giving itself to better balance but as earlier can have a tendency to be heavier.
It all will come down to which feels more comfortable to you. Those are 2 very different animals.

To sum it up… apparently we are no longer able to judge for ourselves if our kids should be able to ride with us.
    Also from AMA:
    Take Action

04/12/2009 Action Alert – No Passengers Under 16 Years Old!
North Carolina Legislation Affects Parental Rights

House Bill 920, introduced by Representative R. Van Braxton (D-Kinston), would prohibit motorcycle operators from carrying any passenger under 16 years of age. The bill was filed on March 31 and referred to the House Committee on Transportation April 1.

If you believe that a parent or guardian, not the government, is best qualified to determine at what age their child is able to be a passenger on a motorcycle, you MUST speak out and stop this legislation.

Many families travel and recreate on motorcycles. To deny parents or guardians the right to include their own children in a form of transportation and recreation is an infringement on parental rights.

Here’s what YOU can do to stop this bill from becoming law:

    1) Contact Representative R. Van Braxton’s office (919-715-3017 or [email protected]) and respectfully tell him why you OPPOSE HB-920.
    2) Contact Representative Becky Carney’s office (919-733-5827 or [email protected]) and respectfully ask her NOT to bring HB-920 up for a hearing.
    3) Contact your representative to encourage him or her to OPPOSE HB-920. Use the AMA “Issues and Legislation” page Issues & legislation of interest to motorcyclists or the North Carolina General Assembly’s “Who Represents Me?” North Carolina General Assembly – Home Page link to obtain the telephone and email address for your representative.

Here are a few talking points:
    1) Responsible motorcyclists with children, not the government, know how to safely transport their own children and know at what age their children are ready to be a passenger on a motorcycle.
    2) Passenger age restriction bills such as HB-920 often result from domestic disputes; an ex-spouse suddenly decides that his or her child is not safe on a motorcycle operated by her or his ex. This issue should be resolved in the courts between the disputing parties, not in the legislature.
    3) This bill is not about safety – it’s about parental rights.

If you don’t take action NOW, you may lose your rights as a parent or guardian to transport and recreate on a motorcycle with your own children. Stop HB-920 NOW.

Ok…not been on the 750 but Started on the Vulcan 500 and now a foolishly grinned owner of a Vulcan 900. The 750 would be a decent starter. Remember cruiser performance is a bit difference then sport bike performance as far as CC’s and gearing goes. Most 600+cc’s is too much references is mainly geared for sport bike and even standard riders.
The 750 will likely be a little more “quick ” out of the gate but still give you a predictable throttle range through the gears. Give yourself a lot of time to get used to the weight, turning “feel” in slow speed maneuvers and don’t try rocketing off the line until you are well versed in the most basic and you will be fine.
As with any ride, learn at a safe pace and keep your ego in check.

I only use it during down hill speed maintenance… ticket avoidance… and slowing to allow someone to change lanes. Other then that… I usually use my brakes.

That and make sure you tell them WHEN it does it. While riding? Turning the key just to on?

Ermmm… your just now noticing that? LOL… tell ya what.. get off early one day and sit at the local corner store. You will see enough 40’s walk out of there to scare ya. Firday’s is when they “Pre-game”. In days of old clubbing and parties got started around 8 at night and gave us plenty of time to figure out who the DD was and about 5 hours to get hammered. Then by last call you were too wore out to complain about it. These days… the crowd around here don’t hit the clubs and parties til around 10-ish . So they “pre-game” to get a head start. Usually complain…alot… about last call…rookies!
