You can also check into cross licensing…. Id I remember correctly Va and NC recognize each others licensing standards and can cross…but TX and NC do not. May want to check into that to help you plot your course of action.

OK…wow… sitting here wondering how you managed all that…. but first…
I imagine you would have to get licensed in Cali as that’s where you will be buying the bike. If it were me, yes I would get one. No no way in hell would you catch me on icy/slick conditions on my bike. I ride in the cold for sure but anything below 20 degrees faren. and dry I take the car… .anything below 35 degrees faren. and wet I take the car.
You have options as far as getting the bike to Va. You could ride… which I suggest you get alot of mental stamina for riding before you try, you could have it shipped though it could get price, or you can simply gauge your progress and see if your ready for something different and then sell the bike and buy your step up when you get to where your gonna settle down at.
Music…personal preference…it’s a debated subject and even some states vary on it. Check the area laws that you plan on riding then experiment with it for your own decision.

We will rack this debate up to personal preference and a simple case of agree to disagree. There are way to many pictures out there that can drag the debate for years on end on wether or not what gear can do what.

“If a car runs over you while you are sliding then that’s going to hurt but gear could certainly improve your chances.”
Umm no…. your gear with the exception from your helmet only “protects” you in the event of a slide. A car runs over you…no gear in the world aside from an iron suit is gonna help you. The back pads , knee pads, pucks, shin guards etc. are only rated for minimal protection for your landing from being launched off the bike. There’s a huge difference between a 150 to 300 lbs person hitting the road from 10 feet in the air and a 1500 lbs car runnin straight over you.

Half helmets and no jacket at all.
Dagger is right though… unless its a head on situation a large portion of the cruisers ride with Freeway/crash/tip over bars and at the event of a lay down you end up riding/sliding with the bike . There again like has been said . We are all gambling one way or another every time we saddle up.
No there’s no statistics or “hard evidence”. I just listen to the riders around me and all their experiences.

I agree with the clutch. My long driveway ends on an incline when leaving with blind curves on both sides getting out on the main road. Your not going to try and rear brake that bad boy… its about a 4foot climb in the space of about 7 feet…then at the top you got another 6″ lift before you hit the paved road. If your try to rear brake that you will just end up falling over in the end. Or lose alot of tire and get lots of new scrathes from trying to get up and go before the bike starts goin over.

you are correct sir. I meant that while they are zipped they still let plenty air in when you turn your foot to the side. There again I am also on a cruiser to, with floor boards so I can enjoy that luxury.

See how the zippers come down to the tops of your feet… yea more air! Down side… more water too.

I wear Vega touring… the zippers up the sides let in air… there again I also have floor boards so all I have to do is turn me feet one way or another to get the wind in there.

Bah….. I wear chaps. Use to them though as I rode in them when I rode bulls. Different kinds of course. I also wear Draggin Jeans underneath. For me textile against leather… I take leather…. Leather pants against chaps… chaps for me… a lot easier to manage when I drink to much mountain dew in the morning and also easy to unzip and throw in the saddle bags when I get to work. I have heard of the “assless” arguments and it always comes down to the risks your willing to take. Thats for any gear you wear.

I would like to see that to. I am an automotive mechanic but motorcycles are a different beast. I am learning things constantly myself. It would be cool to have a section for the community to post their problems, get feed back then do a personal follow up on what the correction was.
