It will depend on your altitude. Typically Asheville stays about 10 to 20 cooler then central NC. It’s at a higher elevation and closer to the wind patterns that get the cold fronts before they retreat back to the north. Your “cold” season usually begins about 1 or 2 months before mine. And if you get caught in the shadows of the mountains the road conditions are tricky at best. In the shadows Ice patches tend to stick around for weeks on end after the sun lit areas have thawed. Find a local bike haunt and ask around.
MunchParticipanthere in central NC the real cold doesnt hit til mid Nov., though some of us still ride. Snow if and when it does fall is normally around Feb. I have been known to ride even when its 17 F outside. As long as theres no frozen precip or I dont have my kids I am on my bike.
MunchParticipantnot bad for what they are. though i prefer more bike as i tend to ride further then just up and down a few city blocks. between the cartoonish posture the leaves you looking like you ran into a fence and it clobbered you in the mid rift to the lack of fuel capacity…those trailer queens are not for much other then bar hops and bike shows.
MunchParticipantSimple answer is …..
Depends on you.
Some folks on here are gonna tell you without armor …no its not enough protection. Some of us it doesn’t matter. The end decision is if you think it is enough. As far as the cold. Depends on how long into the season you plan on riding and wether or not you go up one size to allow for layering. I can tell you now after about 40F that jacket isn’t gonna do much. It’ll deflect the wind…but thats it….. you’ll need a t-shirt and sweater under it. I rode all through the winter here in NC….yup even those mornings we hit 17F. I bought me a snow mobile suit though and anything above 40F in that thing and your sweating your arse off. Your hands will be the biggest problem in the cold.
MunchParticipantall….roughly 1300’s and 1500’s. If it were a second cruiser I would be apt to say go for it. However fresh off a sport bike to a cruiser you are going to be relearning how to ride minus the basics. A tourquey Hd is not much better then your first list.
MunchParticipantId start with the 900. Main reason being that the two styles of riding are night and day. The last thing you need to do is relearn riding with too much torque under you. Most cruisers are set up for low end pulls…..which also means pick too low a gear coming to a stop…let off the clutch too much and you will find yourself in the middle of a bark…slide….ah shit……..please dont highside….type moment.
MunchParticipantIn my experience….stay in the current gear and reduce speed via backing off the throttle. If your having to brake hard….your not giving yourself the safety buffer needed to be riding in the rain. I have spent more then my share in thunderstorms and rain showers…. Leave more then plenty room and ride at a slower speed then normal and all should be well. In case of emergency…. well…. your muscles are gonna dictate what you do. But using both brakes will be your best bet with mild pressure to start and progressing from there.
MunchParticipantUsing the back….. press to slow…. if it locks up…….yea you pressed to hard…lol. Nothing but experience will give you the feel for it. Your front does the majority of the braking and I am glad to see someone utilizing the backs also….but simply experience will give you the answer you need… go into a parking lot and do a bunch of braking exercises and get a feel for different pressures applied.
MunchParticipantFlurries….already…sheesh where you at? Me I ride most of the year. As long as its not wet … I ride. The coldest temp I have been out in so far in 17F. If theres no frozen stuff on the road I am good. Just gotta make sure to gear up for the ride. It’s all about layers and a good pair of gloves. Which this year I am going to look for better ones. The Alpinstars that I have are ok down to about 30F but after that the seams are too exposed.
MunchParticipantYou should really be judging by your speed or lack there of. If your romping on the pedal not even slippers are gonna help.
MunchParticipantBen has been working on it. Found out what problem is but is having to track it down. May already be resolved. I just turned my alert off in FF so I dont know. Bad thing is about some automated programs is they just look for certain criterias and classify itfrom there……. wether or not it actually is a true threat.
MunchParticipantclassic or customs are all I can think of. Even most modified suicide shifters are on the left. Which is just a stabdard shift mechanism where the padded portion has been cut and a shift lever welded on.
MunchParticipantEnjoy her and ride safely!…. make sure to fill us in on your adventures
MunchParticipantunless you bought a Canadian one….no it should be in miles also. If need be get a family member to drive with you in a car and figure a point A and B and determine how far off you are. You might just be surprised how many miles you did actually rack up. Kind of like time with having fun. It goes quick.
MunchParticipantWhat kind of distances are you going to be riding? And why are you thinking on an automatic bike. Not only are they limited in finding to buy but doubly so if it breaks down and you need to repair it. The CF moto I had to search cause I never heard of ’em. Which isn’t saying much but giving the site I went to these things look like ….well…… toys.
