JtownJJAParticipant
With two young boys, I get to watch lots of Kid TV. Spongebob is really funny. I enjoy as much as they do, perhaps more. (Maybe that’s how I ended up with a yellow bike.) They just wrapped up a spongebob marathon this evening. They showed it allllllll weekend long, including 10 new episodes in a row this evening. Other than that, my next favorite would be Monster Jam on the Speed Channel. Not sure why I like it so much. I even like the reruns.
JtownJJAParticipantCongratulations!! It is so exciting when you pass the class! Whether you get a bike right away, or have to wait for a while, it is still a step in a new and exciting chapter in your life. I am very happy for you!
JtownJJAParticipantCongratulations! That sounds really exciting. I’m not sure if I’ve built up my “rear” muscle for that long of a stretch yet.
JtownJJAParticipantSounds like what they taught me, too. They just kept telling us to have a “Wrist Low” position. It makes sense that if for some reason you weren’t thinking or if you lost control of your hand, if it’s in a low position, it can’t turn the throttle much further, if it’s already turned about as far as it can be.
JtownJJAParticipantYou know I like it!!! It’s a lot like mine.

They supply everything, including the bike and helmet. Here in Ohio, you can take it through the state for only about $35.00, although those classes fill up really quick. They open in February, and by the end of April, the whole season is full at all locations. Usually any Harlery dealer offers the same basic class for about $350.00. The MSF is a great way to give it a try without much financial commitment. If you like it, great, if not, no big deal.
Also, as far as bikes go, I tend to like sportbikes or adventure-touring bikes. However, there was one Suzuki GZ250 in my MSF class that the rider seemed to like pretty well. You may want to check it out. It’s on Suzuki’s website under “Standards” instead of “Cruisers”. http://www.suzukicycles.comJtownJJAParticipantI about laughed my head off when I saw your picture Amoryl!! I’m a mainframe Cobol programmer here for a major international Bank. Maybe you’ve heard of it. Our slogan is, hmmm, let me see if I can get it right…, Money’s what matters… We’re what matters…. Hiring people overseas and laying off Americans is what matters…. I can’t quite remember it, but you probably know who I’m talking about.
Let me cut to the CHASE, I got my 2-year associate degree in Computer Science right at the Y2K scare, and have been (for the most part) happily employed since. After working several years as a contractor, I started working where I am now as a FTE (Full-time employee) about 4 years ago. It’s pretty nice actually. I work from home 1 day a week, and when my 8 hours is over, I’m usually free to go home and spend the evening with my family.JtownJJAParticipantHere in Ohio, yes, you have to have your permit (pass the written test) in order to take the MSF. The MSF class ends with a skills test, which if you pass it, you get a card that you take to the BMV to get your endorsement. If you are younger than 18, you MUST take the MSF to get your endorsement. If you are 18 or over, it is optional. You are also able to just schedule a skills test at the BMV.
JtownJJAParticipantI hope this is not a dumb question, but what is a TSB?
JtownJJAParticipantI spent last fall, winter, and spring shopping for my first motorcycle. Now I’ve had it for about a month. During that shopping phase, I spent lots of time on Craigslist, Cycletrader, and e-bay. I changed my mind a few times as to what I wanted, but ended up with the Suzuki GS500F (used). Always great to see fellow Ohioans on here! Welcome from Johnstown!
JtownJJAParticipantI’ve had my Suzuki GS500F for about a month now. I’ve ridden it to work from Johnstown to Columbus about 5 times now. Getting on the freeway (rounte 161) was pretty scary at first, but I’m getting used to it. I still have not tried I-270 yet. I had also considered the Ninja 500, or the GS500F. I liked the looks of the Suzuki better, although both are great bikes to start on. I’ll watch for the purple and white, you can watch for the yellow and black. Ride safe!
JtownJJAParticipantI just got my first bike about a month ago. I kept my eye out there for new and used, until I found just want I wanted, at the price I was willing to pay, at the time I was able to afford it. And, yes, I got a used bike in practically new condition. However, since I got it from another private party, I did not have to pay any additional dealer fees, which can add up quickly. Before I purchased, I must have been on cycletrader, craigslist, and e-bay almost everyday, reviewing my saved searches. Lots of new bikes on Cycletrader, and great used ones on craigslist and e-bay. Just think you should look at all your options.
