I have been looking at motorcycle and gear forever now. I’ve wanted one ever since I can remember. I’m about to take the class here in a couple weeks so I’m finally buying some of that gear I’ve been looking at. A couple weeks ago one of the bike shops was having a sale. Went in and look at some of the jackets and I found one I liked only I don’t know the lingo when reading about them online to pick it up cheaper. I believe the jacket was a feildsheer. It had three layers. The outer layer looked almost like thin carhartt I don’t know if it was water proof but looked water and wind resistant. Next layer was mesh with armor and the very inside layer was the insulated liner. Looked like an almost all weather jacket.
So in an ad when it states removable armor is that the mesh layer or just the fact you can take the armor out.
Would either of these two jackets have those 3 layers?

Both jackets look like “all” weather jackets. The first one has the ability to remove it’s inner lining. The second one looks like it has an inner lining, but it doesn’t say whether it’s zip out or not. I can’t tell from the pics how breathable they are. Look for a local fieldsheer dealer and ask questions if you’re interested in these jackets. Try them on and determine what size you are and then shop around, or see if the local dealer will match internet prices.

around, I want it caught and shot now…July 2, 2008 at 4:17 am #8184biker_guyParticipantWell I was out of town when I saw this jacket. I look young. I’m 24 and still get carded for stuff so no one wanted to help me when other guys are looking at bikes. The only dealer of any kinda in my town is the Suzuki, Yamaha dealer or the Honda dealer. Honda places doesn’t stock jackets. The Suzuki, Yamaha guy chewed me out and pretty much called me stupid for bring up a jacket he didn’t carry or really hadn’t heard of. Why would you want that! this is the jacket I have! Why would you want just a mesh jacket why don’t you just where a t-shirt! I was like well I came to find a jacket I’m not here to argue. The dude then went across the counter from me nudged the person next to him and said “He just wants to wear just the mess and I was like why?” I was also buying parts for my bike at the time so I just paid for them and left. I think I can get them cheaper online anyway so I don’t have to let any more of my money go to keeping him in business and I will not be buying a jacket from there. So that was the adventure for today.

Do you not have a motorcycle accessory store anywhere near you, like in a neighboring town/city? Most motorcycle dealerships won’t stock much. Accessory stores should have a wider selection of stuff. The main thing when starting to buy gear is to not get stuck on any particular brand. Make a note of the things about the fieldsheer that you liked and ask someone if they can recommend anything that has those features. Most moto jacket makers do offer pretty much those things you saw in the fieldsheer. One thing you can try is to do a google search over motorcycle accessories and your zip code. Ex. motorcycle accessories XXXXX
You should get a google maps onebox with all the motorcycle accessory shops near you. Make a note to disregard that suzuki and yamaha dealership.

July 2, 2008 at 6:13 pm #8213biker_guyParticipantI guess I’m stuck with online. All the stores near by only sell bikes and cruiser leathers. Those leather are cool looking and all but I could spend the same amount of money on a text/mesh jacket with armor still look cool, actually be cool, and have even more protection. Cause they’re just leather no armor. In fact I still fit into my black leather jacket from high school when those were in so really I already have one of those but it’ll be HOT! Even then I wanted a motorcycle so mine looked more toward a biker jacket anyway. Anyway I guess I’ll give one online a shot here when the next paycheck comes in.
July 2, 2008 at 6:33 pm #8214megaspazParticipantIf it were me, I’d be looking at perforated leather jackets. Actually, that’s all I wear are perforated leather jackets, in the summer. I’ve found them to be the same as tex/mesh in the hot summertime weather. For rain weather, I’ve got a set of gear for that occassion as well. But it’s pretty much leathers in the summertime.
Edit: Fully armored leather jackets that is…
