ParticipantWell its still a trial run, it’s easy to get rid of it if people start making BS posts just to get points. Let me know if you start to see some abuse.

ParticipantOOoo thats a good idea elwood. I’ll have to figure out a way to do something like that. Right now only admins can ‘give’ points, but I might be able to figure out a way to do it so the common user can. Maybe a sort of ‘vote up’ system, where you can click a box next to a comment or thread and it will give that user a point or something. I will have to play around with it but that is a very good idea.
Thanks!

ParticipantYou can always rent a trailer to get your bike home, I think I rented one from uhaul for around 15 dollars for 8 hours.

ParticipantI sort of know what you are going through, I was in a motorcycle accident a little over a month ago that ended up fracturing my right shoulder blade in multiple places and giving me a small bit of road rash even though I was wearing full gear (leather jacket, leather gloves, textile overpants, jeans underneath, moto boots, full face helmet).
I always wondered how I would react if I was ever in a ‘serious’ accident, and if I would stop riding motorcycles. I liked to think that I was very aware of the consequences of what could happen and didn’t have any false illusions of safety or invincibility. I’m happy to say that the accident has enlightened me quite a bit.
1. Gear is more priceless than gold. Had I not been wearing gear there is a chance I might not even be able to use my right arm right now. Luckily I had leather AND armor to protect me as much as possible, but even that wasn’t enough to stop all the damage.
2. Dying isn’t so bad, its the recovery that is the worst. Where I am spiritually is a really great place but I won’t get into that. I always thought death is the worst thing that could happen on a motorcycle, but now I think that living with a lifelong injury is. What if I had hit a guardrail and it had severed both my legs? Or if my helmet hadn’t protected me and I dropped my IQ by 50 points? That is just my opinion and thoughts.
I find that when I ride now (and I just started riding again last week) I am a little nervous, and I put my gear on with even more thoughtfulness. I am more cautious when it comes to riding, but when you ride a motorcycle you still have to be more aggressive than cars. You can’t just sit around in the slow lane, but I am of the mindset that you should ALWAYS be going 50-10mph faster than the flow of traffic so most danger is behind you.
The fear hasn’t stopped me from riding, and it doesn’t look like its stopping you. It might eventually if the benefits of riding outweigh the risks (like if I had kids and a family to support) then I might cut back, but even then i’m not sure if I would.
I think if you stack all the odds up you can in your favor (gear, proper motorcycle, proper training etc…) then riding can be a relatively safe activity. It won’t ever be as safe as a car, but it might be safer than walking in central park at night.
Well this has been a very long and rambling post, I hope it helped!

ParticipantI’ve been car-less for about 2-3 years now and my only transportation has been a motorcycle. That being said, for the past 6 months I’ve been attempting to save up for a car! Even with a Givi rack, and bungie cords, there are just some things that are difficult to transport on a bike. Sometimes you can borrow a friends ride, or rent a car, but I have found over the years that can be more trouble than it is worth.
Smokeizfire also mentioned dating. Dating is a HUGE pain in the ass when all you have is a motorcycle, especially if you insist on your passenger gearing up with at LEAST a jacket, gloves, helmet, and sturdy boots. Maybe it’s just me but I’ve been finding that a lot of the girls I’m dating in the 18-25 year old range just don’t have cars. Even if they do have cars having someone pick you up or meeting them at the date location gets old pretty quick for both parties.
One thing that I did not think of until it happened to me recently is what you will do if you get in an accident. I crashed and broke my right shoulder blade which means I couldn’t ride my motorcycle anymore until it healed. I could however drive an automatic car really easily, but I didn’t have access to one except at work. I’m now healed up and riding my bike again, but taking public transport for a month and a half really sucked, and we have a really good system in the bay area! I can’t imagine what it would be like in a non metropolitan town.
soooooooooooooooooooooo basically what I am recommending is to keep the truck, and save up for a bike. It is definitely possible to only have a motorcycle, hell, I still don’t have a car but like I said I am saving up for one as my backup mode of transportation. If you do just get the bike I would suggest getting a givi rack and some luggage to go with it, otherwise you will find grocery store trips to be a pain.

ParticipantThanks for catching that megaspaz. They might have gotten through when I had captcha down for a while, or maybe they are figuring out my system…
Ben
Ben
ParticipantYep actually I am. I am going to roll out a ‘point’ sort of system that will keep track of post counts and reviews that people write. Probably have some sort of ranking and title system as well. I’m hoping that will be out maybe mid february, or earlier.

ParticipantYeah the current BBM theme is actually based on the Zen theme with heavy modifcation. Really clean code (at least until I started the modding…).
Ben
Ben
ParticipantIs that like a different theme than the default one you are looking at? If so I need to disable that, but you might be able to check them out because you are a moderator.

Ben
ParticipantI agree with munch. Good luck!
Ben
ParticipantGreat suggestion Megaspaz, you beat me to it. These are great and I used them just a little bit ago when I rented a U-haul to take my bike to the mechanic.

ParticipantOh yeah, haha, sorry I totally forgot about that stuff.
Yeah you can’t see those articles, the information is still there, but I have to open up each article individually and edit some things now that I have changed the website. All of the articles should be back online in roughly 1-2 weeks. Sorry about that, and if there is an article you wanted to have ‘priority’ just let me know and I’ll edit that first.

ParticipantHello Alex,
So when you click on on article you can’t see it? Like click this link:
https://www.bestbeginnermotorcycles.com/shoei-tz-r-helmet-review
Do you not see anything? Or are you having trouble even finding the articles to click on? You should be able to view all of the articles regardless of whether you are logged in or not. The only thing I can think of is maybe some of the URL’s were changed if you had specific articles bookmarked. Please let me know if you can view the articles or not.
