Bear with me a bit guys. Couple projects I’m releasing this week but I promise next week I’ll devote some time to BBM to get this fixed. I have too damn much on my plate right now!
Ben
BenParticipantHey Owlie,
Yeah that is on purpose actually, I have it so the website generates static HTML pages for everyone who isn’t logged on to help with the server bandwidth. As soon as you login you are accessing everything from the database which gives up to the second updates. Not an error, but you have a keen eye Owlie! Hoooo hoooo!!
Ben
BenParticipantGlad you are relatively OK Elias! I broke my first bone in a moto accident too, although I can’t imagine having to ride after I broke it. Pretty badass man
I am curious what type of gear you were wearing since you didn’t mention any road rash. Unfortunately gear doesn’t protect much against broken bones, but it does keep all your skin intact so the broken bones stay inside your body hah!
When you turn your bike into a street fighter my recommendation is to steal a headlight setup from a BMW F800 GS. I think they look crazy cool, like an insects eyes or something.
Ben
BenParticipantYou can find some GREAT deals on craigslist around december and january. People start selling off bikes to pay for other presents (or for overspending the month before). Just be patient and you will snag an awesome bike for a really good price.
Ben
BenParticipantSometimes I think I love women wayyyyyyyy too much
By the way, thats a badass windscreen. Is that stock?
Ben
BenParticipantI definitely need to grab a pair of those, I lost my other flashlight a while ago.

As long as you aren’t past the red line you should be fine.
That being said, I had a mechanic tell me I should get my motorcycle at or at least close to redline everytime I ride to help burn off some of the gunk in the fuel. Not only does it make riding more fun, but it helps with the engine!
Ben
BenParticipantvacation maybe?
BenParticipantlol in all seriousness this is a great article, I plan on writing up a similar article for BBM, do you think I could use parts (if not your whole story) in my article owlie? I would reference you and everything, but I think yours is a good real life example.
Ben
BenParticipantDamnit!
I know there is a “You’re mom” joke to be made out of this thread I just can’t seem to put one together. This is my best shot:
“You’re mom and I had a talk today too, and she says she likes to ride”
Eh, not my best, but i’m running on low sleep!
Ben
BenParticipantI have a Givi case which I love. It locks closed and also locks to the bike to prevent theft. Probably more sportbike appropriate though, wouldn’t look too good on a cruiser.
Ben
BenParticipantYou can also go to:
Account > Subscriptions > Settings
And unclick all the boxes if you don’t want to auto subscribe to things ever.
Ben
BenParticipantUghhhhhhhh!!!!! If you give a mouse a cookie…
Haha, in all seriousness great suggestions guys, and I’m glad it seems like you are all agreeing on a lot of key features. Thanks for the tips Clay, I think I have the profile module installed but I haven’t bothered setting it up at all. I will check into that notifications module.
As for the premier membership although that is a good idea, I don’t think I will be doing it. I like the idea of BBM being free, although I might start posting the ‘donation’ paypal link in the sidebar again.
Megaspaz haha, although the ads ARE annoying, they wouldn’t get too many clicks if they were posted at the page footer One thing I might do though is set up a special type of user roll so you can opt out of seeing the ads. Maybe this is what the ‘membership’ would be, although I would probably just ask for a 1 time donation. Honestly though it isn’t you guys that click on the ads, its the anonymous users that are searching for one specific thing. If the ads are pretty annoying for you guys I might try turning them off for anyone who is logged into BBM. I’ll explore with that and see how much it effects things.
I’m going to be going on vacation to idaho next week, but after I get back I will start to impliment some changes. I already have a better WYSIWYG editor on the way, as well as an easier way for users to upload photos. A review on some saddlebags is in the pipe and I will definitely add a way for members to submit their own gear reviews (although I will probably check them to make sure they are BBM worthy… and that they have been spell checked! lol)
Thanks again for all your interest guys Expect an update in 2 weeks!
Ben
BenParticipantYep you can turn it off in your My Account > Subscription settings
BenParticipantI should make badbeginnerimpressions.com or something
