ParticipantSounds like a pretty good dream from what I’ve read so far, but i’m only on chapter 1 of your post….
Quick side note, I used to have dreams all the time when I didn’t know how to swim about me learning how to swim in my dreams. It always seemed so easy in dream land, but I didn’t actually learn in real life until last year!

ParticipantYou could go all black and then get something like this for night riding:
Just slips on right over your jacket, and it looks pretty badass in my opinion. Although I have to say I am a big fan of white gear, I really want to get a white leather jacket bad!

ParticipantHaha yes yes ray
I’m actually going to post an article soon with pics of exactly how I cleaned my chain (with the help of ray!).

ParticipantI just cleaned my chain for the first time a couple weeks ago. I actually took off my rear wheel and soaked parts of the chain in a kerosene bath, scrubbed with a toothbrush, and then rotated and repeated. Since it was my first time it took about 3 hours total, but it was definitely worth it. The method in this video is a lot faster, but in my opinion not as thorough.

ParticipantIt’s an admin privilege. My site lets you post in 3 different styles, filtered HTML, PHP, or Full HTML. Originally I had it so everyone could post full HTML, but then someone (was it you? I can’t remember) told me that it was a security issue because it allowed anyone to post javascript or something. So I just made it so everyone posts using filtered HTML, thus getting rid of the option of posting inline images.
I need to enable it so users can post inline images and such, but I just haven’t had the time. I know its a key feature and it is at the top of my list of things to do though.

ParticipantI wear some safety glasses that I got from work. They are tinted about as much as my dark smoke visor and a lot faster to put on so I have been wearing them quite a bit.

ParticipantIn my opinion leather is great, but for most riders textile is fine. If you plan on regularly hitting triple digits like the guys do at the track, then i would say you should DEFINITELY get leather. But if you are like most riders and the fastest you will go is around 90mph then textile is more than adequate.
Make sure you get gear with hard armor as well, you don’t want a broken elbow!

ParticipantHave you considered some 500’s at all? Like maybe the Kawasaki Ninja 500?
All of the bikes you mentioned would be good beginner bikes to start your riding career on. I did the exact same thing you are doing, I was too broke to buy a car, so I bought a motorcycle instead. You know what I found? A car is cheaper, but a motorcycle is more fun.
Sure a motorcycle might be a LITTLE bit cheaper for just the bike, but once you include insurance, motorcycle gear, MSF course, and maintenance then motorcycles become a lot more expensive. In my opinion you would save money by just getting a solid mid to late 90’s honda car and just driving that.
Here are just a few things I’ve had to pay for in the past month:
Valve Adjustment and Carb Sync: $300
New Tires: $300ish
Oil Change myself: like 30-40 bucks. And thats just to keep the bike running. I’ve bought hundreds of dollars worth of gear and luggage for my bike as well.
Your best bet to keep things cheap is to get something like a 2007 or earlier Ninja 250 or Ninja 500. The bike will be cheap so you can buy some gear, and insurance will be inexpensive as well. Plus both of those bikes have really solid engines that don’t need a whole lot of maintenance. That’s my 2 cents.
Now, if you don’t care as much about finances as you do about looks and performance then I would consider the sv650 and the ninja 650 as well. Both bikes will easily handle the freeway and the twisties.
This is becoming a long rambling reply. I hope I haven’t turned you off of bikes, but I just wanted to let you know you won’t be saving much (if any) money by buying a motorcycle compared to an older car. Now if you compare it to a newer car that is a different story. A modern civic is going to be a lot more expensive than a modern Ninja 650.

ParticipantYou can actually experience countersteering on a bicycle if you get it going fast enough. Thats how my friend Ray taught me.

ParticipantI’m strictly TNG and later when it comes to star trek. Although I hear that the original series is pretty good too, I just haven’t gotten around to it.~Best Beginner Motorcycles Admin

ParticipantCongrats
The MSF course is a blast, and it really teaches you a lot of good techniques. Post up some pics of your bike when you get it
