ParticipantEureka Springs was definitely one of the most biker friendly places I think I’ve seen.
As for the lake, we were on Hudson. It did get a little busy after the rain stopped, but the morning storm kept most of the traffic down. In all honestly, my family spends so much time on the lake, that come holidays, we tend to just stay off it. Too many crazies…

ParticipantI do understand; I’m lucky in that I get to get in and out of town about an hour before the real rush hour starts.
When you move up this way, look me up!

ParticipantWow, that looks like so much fun. Have a fantastic ride!

ParticipantI know; humor doesn’t always come across…
Actually, I had to bribe my cat with treats to get that shot. She wasn’t at all enthusiastic about the new helmet smell. I can’t say that I am either.
And to answer your original question, no, I don’t know from experience…

ParticipantI agree. On the one hand, it upsets me and angers me that this guy is out there reinforcing the image of irresponsible motorcyclist. On the other hand, it is kinda of marvelous to see someone out there flaunting the rules to live on the edge.
While I doubt it will happen this way, I hope that he gets his kicks out of his blood stream, doesn’t kill someone or get killed, and puts up his racing leathers for good real soon.

ParticipantThe Glenn is 65 from Anchorage to the Parks Interchange. It is 55 from then on. For the most part, people drive 65-75 until after the interchange and 55 on into Palmer (assuming good weather).
Frankly, the traffic in Anchorage isn’t nearly as bad as what you find in cities of comparable size. It is one thing that I don’t miss about living in Tulsa, OK.
I think Willow is too far out if you want to commute, but I do know of a few people who make it… I’ll stick with my nice drive in from Palmer anytime….
As for the moose, I generally feel worse for the moose than the drivers. I hope this rider doesn’t meet up with one. I don’t think that he could do enough damage to give the moose a swift ending….

ParticipantI spent the 4th with my family on the lake in Oklahoma.
We had drenching rain all morning, but it cleared up by 1pm so we had a nice afternoon for fireworks on the beach. Family, Food, and Fireworks- what else could you ask for on the 4th?
Then my mom and I went to Eureka Springs, AR for a few days. The day we got there, I think that there must have been an MC club in town or something. There were probably 200 or so motorcycles cruising the historic district the first evening and then they were all gone the next day.
Hope everyone else had a great time!

ParticipantKittens taste better.

ParticipantNot necessarily. You may have gotten a different discount that is incompatiable with an MSF discount. For example, they might not give you an MSF discount if you have a Good Driver discount.
Also, not all insurance companies will offer an MSF discount.
Your best bet would be to get a couple of quotes elsewhere, compare them, try to haggle with your current company, and switch if they don’t give you a better rate. This should of course be done in this order, and don’t stay with them if they refuse to lower their rate to be more competitive with another firm.
Best!

ParticipantA member puts a couple pictures of his daughter posing on his bike, and he gets raves about what a “cutie” she is. Can’t the girls have an opportunity to admire also?
Anyway, he is young; be glad that he is mature enough to start looking with a smaller bike rather than starting a new gixer thread.
Once he gets his bike, he’ll update his avatar with a bike picture while sitting there ATGATT. Then everyone will get to admire the pic.

ParticipantAll I know is that I have seen one too many beginner bikes on craig’s list with just a few hundred miles on them… I’ll take the course and then decide if I want to drop the money on bike, insurance, gear…

ParticipantSorry to burst your bubble, but there are hills in Oklahoma.

ParticipantYou said in your original post that you don’t know anyone who rides…
I thought that at first until I started looking around me. Over half the IT department at my work rides- and that was just the tip of the iceberg.
If you ask around, you might find some like-minded people who you already know. Of course, if you are like me, you would rather die than admit to someone you know that you don’t know what you are doing.
In that case, looking for a local riders’ website as previously suggested would be your best bet.
