ParticipantUmmm…. what kinda biker are you thinking…and what kind of back support you gonna have…. Herniated discs are nothing to play with and a bike I would think wouldn’t be on the “to get ” list. A cruiser and sport bike both have their varying degrees of stress on the back. You sure you wanna go that route?

ParticipantAgain I lean back on the judgement thing. Offensive to you, you have stated as much, beyond your own feelings towards it, would you maybe relax to the idea that you are reading further into something that is not really there? Me personally…someone pisses me off ….I let them know…. Do I do it on the fly… lol…not ALL the time :^) . Honestly I do try to look at things in different situations and see if I am just jumpy because of my predisposition or is it just something that even though its offensive in your region may be perfectly acceptable in someone elses. Another debate about the particular subject above… you cannot see who made the comment. Sarcasm, generalization, humor and general emotion is very very hard to relate in text. Ofcourse smilies help. Along with the occasional “lol”.
Maybe even , thanks to Ben, we now have an inbox taking the subject matter “P2P” , or as best you can . I will bet that matters are more easily resolved on a more private level then getting the public involved. Egos are more easily set aside or even less likely to be triggered. Heck maybe even the offending person would see your PoV and edit the offense out of mere decency.
You have as much right to speak your mind and PoV as the person who is offending you, are you prepared to be the one to agree to disagree? Are you comfortable with an “eye for an eye” attitude and feeling justified by giving the offender as much attitude and flack as you thought you indirectly received?
The ONLY true Censors are our own person and character. What you think about you. Others (IMO) should not matter. You can escape them, ignore them, remove yourself from the situation.
But… ” no matter where you go there you are”. You cannot escape yourself.Yesterday is a memory, tomorrow is a prediction, but today…… is a Bi**h

ParticipantStats can definitely be scewed a bit one way or another…. here in NC a driver that is in the rear of an accident is automatically at fault… Hmmm… sux for the guy that came over the blind hill to find that mustang stopped in the middle of the road to score drugs ( personal experience) . However I just joined the ranks of at fault drivers. Luckily I was in my Monte and not on the Vulcan.
I would worry less about the stats wether true or not and just focus on not becoming one.1 more thing… at one time it was said that 1 in 4 people can wiggle their ears un assisted…. in my life time I have yet to meet one.

ParticipantEr…. I mean Elwood!!! just picking. Man I am a tad disappointed… I figured it had to be a woman. Work is a piss poor excuse …lol, at least so I keep trying to convince myself. Glad to read your out on 95… I can agree with ya on the boring part… luckily my interstate is full of business…. people, who’d rather read the NYSE reports or latest IT rag then the road. Not to mention the 5 mile minimum of practice I get at the friction zone every morning going foot by foot through the back up to my exit because some moron either tapped a car going in the same direction as him, or a LEO pulled some Fast and furious wanna be for one reason or another. No loss for excitement there.
Oh yea…did I say welcome back?Yesterday is a memory, tomorrow is a prediction, but today…… is a Bi**h

ParticipantThe S40 would probly do better IMO. The 250’s though proven to be tough … in a cruiser… and back roads… eh … not here. If you were looking sport style bike I would say go for it. I ride the Vulcan 500… and other then the recent hiccup .. I love the bike… gives ya plenty of get up go in any condition. Wouldn’t go above the 500 or 650 range on cruisers though… you’ll need the lighter weight to learn on especially in the turns and “sudden” stops that a country road can throw at ya.

ParticipantI remember seeing some references to having GPS’s on the mods lists…hmmm curious how that fits in. Music can be easily ignored but if your looking to see if Garmin told you to turn a half mile back or waiting to see if you have to… now that would be a bigger distraction and danger to me then say having some tunes roll through your ears and not the whistle of the wind… and never mind the tub thumpers in the cage near ya somewhere at the stop light bangin out music that you may or may not like.
Now now don’t get to picking what I said apart…. just a humorous observation. Though I really do dislike the GPS idea…. Personally, plan the ride before you ride. That away everyone knows where your headed… be it your friends… or the company that occupies your same brain waves.
edit: BTW..thanks for the links I am now trying to find better options then the earbuds I wear…some of the ones above are great.

ParticipantI can see your point on this…..however… since 90% of my conscious life has music on all the time…. FOR ME ( I use caps only to make it a PPOV) music being on is just another day. My brain doesn’t focus on the music. However if your unlike me and not used to but select times of listening enjoyment… roll with Rab’s PoV.
oh yea… and no fiddling with the music…. cheap i-pod type thing…. enough songs for the ride… and then hit shuffle. Plug in, i-pod thing in inside jacket pocket….both hands on the bars… and RIDE!!!!

ParticipantTry the link below. 3M makes black reflective tape also. I have a roll coming in soon. I can’t give up my leather jacket so I got the black tape so I can survive the morning ride like you. I have no worries with intersections thank god as most of my ride is interstate. Though when we get into the stop and crawl traffic I start doing a slalom run up to the stopped cars ahead… be amazed how quick the car that WAS tailgaitin ya will drop back to give you some room. I also exercise the quick flashing of the brake lights at the 3 intersections I actually have to sit at. As far as 4 ways…. Pfft… I don’t care if it’s supposed to be my turn or not … I will happily wave everyone through ( unless it getting backed up) and then scoot on out. Even if its backed up I sometimes wait til someone honks at me to go through… then I atleast know they see me. There again though .. I look like a hoodlum and rarely will some one chance a counter with me no matter how dead wrong they are on their impression of me.

ParticipantI think it would be more aimed towards persons who are “frail”. Meaning they wouldn’t have the upper or lower body strength to handle the bike in slow turns and maybe save it from a stopped drop. Leg strength at a stop will help as much as your arms to give you leverage to keep the bike from going over… ofcourse theres that what….5 degrees of lean that you actually have that chance? Other reasons I could think is at the very least you find yourself under the bike and on the ground you can atleast kick yourself out from under it.
Other health questions people need to be honest with themselves about… seizures, eye sight, reflex, back troubles etc. If your wearing a full face helmet…. asthma, claustrophobia…. and obvious…allergies (how quick are you gonna be able to get that visor up at 75 mph should you need to sneeze?) . Knee replacements and joint work. Hip replacements…. etc.Yesterday is a memory, tomorrow is a prediction, but today…… is a Bi**h

ParticipantYea we kicked around the ethanol theory only hole in that is that it took 1200 miles in between occurrence. I fill up at 2 gas stations. One has the ethanol @ 10% the other not. So it really doesn’t lend itself to being that.
But yes, another reason why I bought new…WARRANTY!
I hope no one gets the wrong impression too much. The 500 has been awesome! Great power and acceleration, heck I even had it take on a Softail yesterday going to work. The guy wouldn’t change lanes to get in front of me but kept trying to pace me throttle for throttle and brake for brake. After about 5 miles of this and watching his turn signal constantly on I had enough, cracked the throttle and left him with his jaw hangin. We were already doing 70 mph :^) The Vulcan had plenty of get up go to spare.
I think they are going to check into opening the valve up, my only concern is the location and rain. Hate to go from having a vacuum problem to having water get into the tank anytime the ride gets moist.
Secretly though ………. I kinda want to get the Vulcan 900 too. I just need more justification for doing it then “want”. Cause other then this the 500 is perfect for what I use it for.Yesterday is a memory, tomorrow is a prediction, but today…… is a Bi**h

ParticipantYes the tanks full, no the Vulcan does not have an “off ” setting on the fuel valve and no it wasn’t on reserve, and yes I run seafoam in her every third tank.
