ParticipantWhy were you having trouble getting it started after letting it sit? Battery….. not cranking to hard start… or would it constantly try and just not actually fire up.
If you really think it’s the valve take it to the dealership. I can’t remember if you bought it new but if you did definitely take it there as it’s still under warranty. If not still take it there to save you some time and grief, just make sure to ask millions of questions as to what their conclusion was and how they arrived at it.Munch
ParticipantIt was gorgeous. 6 of us all total. 4 Vulcan 900’s and 2 Vulcan Nomads went. Couldn’t have asked for a better day to ride as it was partly cloudy the whole time, 85 degrees and low humidity. The first thing I was impressed with was that even though none of us had ever ridden together before we had some of the prettiest “Parade” formation in the intersections of the small towns we went through. Scenery was great, my only regret was that we didn’t stop all that often. I saw a lot of historical markers I would have liked to stop and read.
Couple of lessons learned though. One… I am getting me a drink holder for my handle bars so I can take a sip anytime I want. Long rides can leave you with a bad case of cotten mouth quickly. Two…. sun screen is definitely going in the saddle bags for rides longer then what I take to work. Got just a tad on the pink side on my face. Third….. my 900’s gas mileage almost doubles when staying under the 60 mph range. I am getting the scootworks pulley this Monday also.
All in all it was a great ride. Great people, beautiful bikes, scenery and weather. Best day off I have had in a long time.Munch
ParticipantYea the wind proof part is key. I usually wear a t-shirt, sweater then my leather jacket. Winter riding gloves, a pair of sweat pants, riding jeans and my leather chaps when winter hits here. Oh yea and a baclava under the FF. Snug as a bug in the rug.

ParticipantSeats heights….you got your list already …. HOWEVER….. aftermarket seats (in your personalizing process) can typically lower seat height by as much as 2 inches, in the cruiser world that as, such as Mustang and Saddleman. Or you can try the more expensive lowering kits. Reach can be remedied very easily and cheaply by getting handle bar riders. Typically they move the bars up and back and you can adjust the placement of the grips at install to giving you a wide range of tinkering. For levers (clutch and brake) you can find after market shorty levers.
Remember….no bike is ever perfect outta the box, out the door. Some can come darned close though.Munch
ParticipantYep this is a very good reminder. Though not many of us will be riding still in the colder weather. Still good for most to look at. Unless it’s frozen…I ride, and I am sure glad that MPH scale stops at 60… I don’t wanna know what 28 degrees @ 80 mph windchill really is.

ParticipantI would doubt that many “professionals” would do it. They have enough races to worry about and one thats not in a trophy/cup/championship type scheme is not one they would risk losing it all in. Think NFL quarter back getting injured in a flag football game type thing.

Participantnot sure wether to say ..sorry to hear that or good job on saving the significant other.

ParticipantIf in doubt…replace. The last thing you want to find out should something go awry again was that you were right.

Participant“Does anyone use the rear brake while doing slow speed driving? I tried it while doing my slow driving practice and I think it works out pretty well. Use the friction zone, and open the throttle a little more than usual and ride the rear brake slightly.”
That is the PROPER way to do it.

Participantthere’s quite a few parts that are shipped back over and are Harley badged. Mostly the electronics but even some of the engine components are “out sourced”
Munch
Participant“Harleys have nearly 100% American-made parts”….. ummmm NO

ParticipantButt test both. You have 2 very different riding styles in those 2.

ParticipantAs far as the ISO’s go…. I could take em or leave em as far as function.. for looks they do dress up the bike.
For the de-baffle It depends on the tools you have on how long it takes. I would suggest going in stages though as you go. Start with maybe 4 holes in the first plate and run it around town to see if you like…then work your way up. The more holes the louder and deeper it gets. I eventually took all mine out. Which a by product some don’t like is the “backfire” popping on deceleration. Me I like it, but to get rid of it is fairly easy to.Munch
ParticipantI got my daughter to stand directly behind me then about 20 or so… (probly more) feet back. Then I adjusted my mirrors to where I caught half her body on the inside edge of the mirror on each side. This allows to see what is behind me and catches what is about to go along side of me. As far as to the side goes…. theres always going to be a blind spot…thats why HEAD CHECKS are imperative to be in the habit of.
