I can’t seem to find a happy place for my mirrors. I feel like I’m always either staring at my shoulders, or seeing things that I’d see out of the corner of my eye if I turned my head a fraction. I can only seem to get one side adjusted to see what is behind and to my left.
What do you guys look for when adjusting your mirrors? Is my problem just that I haven’t been on any four lane roads to have a context for what I am seeing on the right?
Just curious.

I therefore have my mirrors turned pretty far out, so far that I can just see the tips of my elbows on the inside edges. I do have to move my head to see behind me, but I personally find the sides to be more vulnerable areas.
I know what you mean though. Bike mirrors tend to be pretty crappy relative to those in cars in terms of total visibility.

I went with bar-end mirrors, and it solved the problem entirely. Now this is on a faired sport bike. Cruiser? I’d suggest mirror extenders as an initial attempt to make them more useful.
September 13, 2009 at 12:13 am #22320MunchParticipantI got my daughter to stand directly behind me then about 20 or so… (probly more) feet back. Then I adjusted my mirrors to where I caught half her body on the inside edge of the mirror on each side. This allows to see what is behind me and catches what is about to go along side of me. As far as to the side goes…. theres always going to be a blind spot…thats why HEAD CHECKS are imperative to be in the habit of.
