Participant….or we can wait and see what the next 2 years plays out with……..
Sorry….no go with your argument , or point of contention rather. GUESSING at what percentage of seat belts being worn is nothing but a guess. Notice also they do not put any focus on how many seat belts have also caused deaths due to trapment, failure to release and other causes. They have an agenda nothing more or less. As with anyone trying to prove that they were essentially right.
To ignorantly and blindly state the over a certain percentage of the population wears seat belts like it’s some kind of accomplishment is just a near sighted guesstimate that borders nothing short of yet another point of proof about how many “precentage statistics” are made up on the spot.
Get an accurate count of illegal immigrates, homeless, legal immigrates, pets, cars, kids, divorces, psychos, whatever else you wanna waste tax money on trying to figure out…. then , though I doubt it, would I come close to considering your guesstimate to be close to accurate. Hell lets throw the recent “intelligence” out there on just how bad the oil spill in the gulf is.
Am I slamming the government….Absolutely not, I am very much a person with all the love for the country in which I live and help support via my tax money, labor, and efforts via extra curricular activities…. but when you have to make cuts to education and other things due to “lacking funds” but have nothing but a guesstimate to show for what little funds you do have… .only thing I have for you is a swift pop in the back of the head and a question of “WTF were you thinking?”
I don’t want to see a weak government…. I don’t live in Zimbabwe or wherever…..don’t care to….however I don’t give in to the thought pattern of… “awww poor things everyone makes a mistake……give them another shot at it” kind of mentality…. DO THE FRIGGIN JOB YOU WERE HIRED FOR AND GET PAID FOR >>> GUESSING was not in the job description. If you deal with transportation …. improve or develop it! If your in the business of law…. quit trying to redefine the word illegal! If your hired to represent the people of your state, county , district…then F’in do it!
I get so tired of hearing “Oh sorry but look what we got right…..” Let me try that with one of my customers after they slam into the ditch after a wheel off ….. ” Hey Mr customer…sorry your head is busted up and your car is trashed….but hey your wipers now clean the windshield off really well so you could see what you slammed into! Next time I will be sure to properly torque your wheels to avoid it again. You shoulda seen the last car it happened to in Bumstuck east….man he really took a bad one.”
Give me a freaking break.
Tell ya what…..stick with your “it could be worse” philosophy while others do the hard work of trying to make it to where they aren’t.Munch
Participantpffft……they can’t even keep count of the population….and want to speculate on how much of the population is “buckled up” …palease….. oooh or even another way to waste tax money….lets figure out how many un licensed riders/drivers are out there….. or how bout Silver to Red car ratios…or…..novel idea…. Lets Fix the Friggin Roads!!!!!!!

ParticipantCongrats…… and as far as cheaper goes…. be happy with it stock… otherwise you will be fooling yourself. First aftermarket part you buy is a small stone in the avalanche that’s about to happen.

ParticipantI had some from a couple years ago posted on here…but can’t find it….. I’ll take again and repost.
Munch
ParticipantGet what you expect out of it….probably…. just need to make sure you price it as *firm* and not OBO.
However….. federal charges…that’s laughable. Trust me I am a guy that after getting married and divorced at one time had my credit drop to a high 300’s thanks to my now ex wife’s bad choices. Do they have the option to take you to court… yes….do you have to show….not really. The most they could ever do is reposes the property and try to force you to pay the remaining balance of what they couldn’t get out of it. That and it is not a federal anything…. the credit laws as of probably when you/he bought the bike are state regulated….. most all states have statutes of limitations concerning pay back. Like in NC if you have not and are not in a position to make payments for 4 years consecutively then then the lender is screwed, the longest stretch I remember for a state was 8 years. The only thing they can do is sell your information to a second hand collector which will usually try and get you to settle for 3/4 to 1/2 the remaining balance. And why not …they have nothing invested in it. So it’s a money bag for them. However the original lender can keep posting the negative report on your over all report. No Federal anything……now this new joke we have in DC…….well….. that’s gonna be a problem down the road and a debate I’ll not get into on this forum.
I am not condoning by any means to not pay them back. However don’t let them mislead and misguide you by using bullying phrases like….law suit, we can take this or that …etc. Believe me after my ex wife’s muck ups….. these guys got to be nothing to handle for me.
If you don’t want the scoot…take your time to look the pricing up in your area…..compare it to what you would like to get and post it up. Don’t let their empty threats rush you into taking considerably less then what you need by selling to the first person looking to make a deal.

ParticipantROFL…. see …told ya….. a whole new can!
It is all as anything else is, a personal choice on what you wear as “safety” equipment just as long as you understand the risk. This helmet this and that business will go on for as long as there are motorcycles on the road, and as long as there are folks that feel the need to tell others what they think is best for ya. Only thing that can get aggravating is that the actual question rarely gets answered.
For a total beginner straight out the gate I do echo the concern and highly recommend a full face helmet. Most falls and spills will be at lower speeds and as Jack said…. a broken jaw aint no fun, and there is nothing “badd ass” about telling your friends that you did it at 3 mph and forgot to use the back brake. ( see I to am another person that…well I don’t feel the need to)
Later down the road you decide more open air is to your liking. As with the FF helmets. Go find a shop and test them out. They do make them to different head shapes and depths.
I have a front “faring” on my 9 and rocks and such really are no matter to me, and….well I still exaggerate the following distances behind the vehicle in front of me so cigarettes are not a threat either. I did take a plastic bag to the leg once though… led to an interesting dilemma….. grab it off your leg at 80 mph …now what…. do you let it go and become a 2nd hand litterer, or keep hold of it looking like your trying to contribute to the capture of all things air born? As far as air flow goes. If you have no windshield or faring of any type yea…. the speeds above 55 will create havoc on your helmet/head.
The helmets I have are…
~~HJC Full Face…forget the model number as it has been re painted to my liking. Love this helmet and is always on my bike, wether on my head or not.
~~A Bell Drifter half helmet, although more comfortable of my 2 half helmets I get uneasy about the quality. The helmet was supposed to be flat black textured but after a day in the sun the over coating began to melt and that’s when it showed that Bell being the cheap asses that they are just sprayed the coating over their standard glossy black helmet of the same design.
~~A Fulmer half helmet….this thing is ok, the straps have a lot of “cushion” on them and the fit is decent for my head, but most of the time I feel like I am wearing a bicycle helmet from when I was a lil kid. So sometime for the nostalgia I will wear it.
~~HJC 3/4 helmet…never get worn. The thing is over sized and for my aesthetic taste belongs on the head of the folks riding the Beemers. Or if your behind the big shield holding a baton.I am still searching though for both half and 3/4 styles that I like.
Shamrock…… I know your town, been there many a time and the train near the paper mill down Madison highway has got to be the most annoying train section I have seen.
Munch
ParticipantOh boy……..you just opened a can and don’t realise it. Most on here are hardcore full faced helmet folk and not without good reason. However myself I wear both depending the ride and weather.
As far as what is out there…..Personally I will never buy another Bell helmet. I am looking into outlaw brand half helmets. Make sure what you get is definately DOT certified at minimum. Best thing to do is go to a shop and try some on to see what fits your head shape. Also be careful about local laws concerning the quick release features. Some states have banned them.

ParticipantBrakes….. good idea…. but you can save the $$ by doing that manually…. Headlights…. highly debated, chalk it up to personal preferrence.
Munch
ParticipantBut is it truly a waste if it brought a smile to his face in the end?
IMO its a bigger waste to buy something …..turn and sell it and hope for breaking even or even a small profit. Besides….what good is money other then to be spent? Take a lesson from the Egyptians….. Can’t take it with ya when you go!Munch
ParticipantDefinitely jealous. Gorgeous scenery, looks like ya missed a sprinkle or two in there. Good thing your ATGATT..lol….. those swings can take you out in a moments notice.
Munch
ParticipantWarm water and soap….then apply a decent wax on the helmet…. there’s a bike legend about Pledge…..but that’s another debate for some. I just use warm water with less then a dab of dish soap on a rag. Comes right off, follow up with a good decent liquid wax and the bugs stay easy to come off. For my visor.. I use Aqua Pel… RainX on steroids. Helps limit the need for a finger squeegee during wet rides.
Congrats on the bike and the first ride!
Munch
ParticipantWere you accelerating through the turn?
Munch
Participant1 year. .. then needs renewal. No passengers and no night riding.
Munch
ParticipantActually it can be concidered a natural reaction. Think about what your first instinct is to do when someone comes near you with something really gross and its near your arm. Or when your just about to walk into something and catch yourself are the last moment……. you instinctively pull your arms or arm in. Your brain might be processing that yellow line like that of an invisible wall. Don’t want to hit it so you tuck….. pull the arm in to avoid it thus initiating the turn and lean.
Munch
ParticipantFirst advice is to sit on both bikes. You have 2 very different styles there.
