ParticipantSince I’ve signed up, from my perspective, most of the people here seem to be new riders, most of us kinda are in the same boat as you. I’m not from oregon, but from what people tell me that have ridden through there, there are some nice roads to ride, even though it’s full of speed traps…
anyhoo, have fun getting started, take the msf course, and your experiences would be a great help to other people later on down the line that start motorin’.
Cheers. (-:

ParticipantHiya and welcome. I can’t really give you any concrete advise on choosing one class of bike over the other, but from what you said you want, you’ll probably want to go for a cruiser or a normal, non-sport bike. At the MSF, we used honda rebels and nighthawks. The rebel, I really hated and the nighthawk was rather meh for me. I myself, find my sv650s comfortable and have ridden it for about 2 1/2 hours straight a couple of times with no ill effects (that I could tell). If you search the posts, someone here had a decent high level difference between cruisers and sports bikes. It’d either be in this topic area or in the general topic area.

ParticipantSounds like a plan. My buddy’s been trying to get me to go with him onto 9 and 35 and up to alice’s… Definately sounds like fun.

ParticipantFor what it’s worth, there’s differences between the SV650 and the SV650S. Main difference is that the SV650S has the handlebars lower which puts you even more into a front lean position on the seat and the foot rests are higher as well.

ParticipantWelcome! I’m about 5’10” and riding my buddy’s ninja seems perfectly comfortable to me. But everyone’s idea of comfortable is different. I can only say see if you can find a 250 some where and sit on it for a while. Afaik, the ninja 250 gets excellent mileage and is light. Not sure how you go about guaging brakes though… everyone likes their brakes differently, and as long as you slow down or come to a stop when engaging the brakes, that would seem to me to be good brakes…
Not sure about the hyosongs. There seems to be a lot of negatives on them though in regards to reliability.
There’s a couple of reviews on this site for a variety of bikes. Give them a read and look at the comments as well. Should give you somewhat of an idea at least.
Again, welcome!

ParticipantIf you do burst, you mind putting in your will instructions for shipping the bike to my place?

ParticipantYou probably don’t want a sports bike then since the way they’re designed is for the rider being tucked/hunched-over.
You can use google to find dealerships around your area… for example, if i’m looking at suzuki bikes, i might put in the search box:
suzuki dealerships 94085

ParticipantHiya and welcome!
The final decision’s up to you on which bike to get. the 250 ninja might be a bit cramped for you since you’re rather tall, but weight-wise the bike should be fine for you. You just need to go and sit on some bikes. I don’t much care for cruisers myself so I have no ideas about them. I can say, having ridden these bikes, that the sv650s, the sv650s abs, and the ninja 250 are fine bikes to ride. If I’m reading you right, it seems that you feel more safer riding in india as opposed to here… which is kinda funny, as I have a friend at work who’s interning here from france, and he’s said he’d feel safer riding here in california than in france… hahaha…
anyhoo, if you can get ABS, get ABS. Suzuki has some vids that really highlight the benefits of ABS.

ParticipantAdd to the lessons, don’t let your mind wander when you’re riding… I just side swiped some bushes today taking a left turn into a very elevated driveway… Didn’t drop the bike but I got smacked by the bushes on the right and the bike got some light scratches on the wind screen as well as 2 places on the exhaust getting a red paint patch from the curb…
