This doesn’t really pertain to you, but my mum also was not very happy with me getting a bike. The first time she saw me in my gear, she was really upset. Didn’t want to see the bike and didn’t talk to me the rest of the night. A couple of weeks later, I came down for my birthday and she finally saw the bike in person… Here are the pics of what happened that day…

needless to say, we had a good dinner and a lot of laffs. In other words, like some others have said, if you’re an adult, your parents might not like it, but they’ll probably get used to it over some period of time and they probably won’t cut you off over something like this…

Over here, the MSF was around 200+ bucks. It included 1 classroom session @ night, and sat. and sun. riding instruction. The MSF here provided helmets. You only needed to get gloves that cover the wrist, boots that cover the ankle, long pants with no rips anywhere, and a long sleeve jacket made of “sturdiesh” material. For gloves, any cheap leather gardening gloves from your local hardware store will do.

http://www.wikihow.com/Buy-a-Used-Motorcycle seems to be a reasonable guideline, but if you can, ask someone experienced to go along with you.

I also remember hearing leather can be reused and repaired while mesh is a one time thing only. For the jacket, I do leather and the pants I just go with mesh. I don’t go with leather pants due to the image of Ross on friends making a paste in his leather pants trying to get them off one hot summer day… >.< —

The bungie cords are just hard to see due to the blackness of the rear fender and the dark blue paint job. The front bungies go through the rear bar and hook onto the bottom of the rear fender, and the back bungies hook into 2 metal pins on each side between the rear seat and the rear fender.

Edit: I take that back… after looking at the pic showing just my butt, the back bungies hook onto the 2 metal pins underneath the rear handles.

White is a good color for visibility. Although, David L. Hough doesn’t necessarily think much of the visibility (i think he even calls it a fad), every little bit helps, imo.

    Awesome pics, btw. Congrats! (-:

oh man… glad to hear that everything came out good and that you hit nothing.

What I find unnerving about emergency braking at higher speeds is that you really feel the downward force on the front of the bike from the frontbrakes. It’s a lot more pronounced @40-50 mph than @20-25 mph done at the MSF. I don’t even really want to think of what 70+mph would feel like on an emergency stop… The only thing I can really think of is that emergency anything @70+mph is just a bad deal all the way around… especially for the rider… >.< —

My calculation of the ~1 gallon reserve comes in from the average mpg from the 1st ~3 gallons over the course of time I’ve had my bike. @~150 miles on 3 gallons would be 50 mpg. It’s not totally accurate though and just a guestimation as the fuel indicator light doesn’t start blinking @ exactly 1 gallon of gas in the tank left. It blinks somewhere slightly over 1 gallon… maybe 1.1 or 1.2… can’t remember though…
