Hey! there is an art to falling! :-P

Actually, in the olden days, from what I heard, the MSF used to teach how to slide in an accident… :-/

so my list continues, zx-6r, 08 250r, and then??
i dont think id mind a sv650sf but the thing is that there kind of expensive

    With a MSRP of $8999.00 for a 2008 zx-6r on your list, you’re complaining about about a $6899.00 2008 sv650sf being too expensive? $7399.00 for an sv650sf with ABS.

    /me boggles… :-P

    Edit: $8999.00 is for the 2007 zx-6r. 2009 zx-6r MSRP is $9099.00

I mean 4k rpm and under on the highway? uh-uh… Anyhoo, here’s a thread where people talked about it. I think Jiriki wins for actually following through the manufacturer’s recommendation… :-P

    https://www.bestbeginnermotorcycles.com/forum/forum-topic/744/ok-be-honest-now

Edit: after re-reading that thread, it appears there’s quite a few people that followed the manufacturer’s recommendations to a ‘T’… :-P

All good. Yeh, it was me that told you about javascript being executable, so I’d prefer that not being enabled and having you do what you need to do when you have time. Thanks for the explanation. (-:

With a dry weight of 476 lbs. (add about another 20 lbs. for the weight wet), I’d go with an sv650 just on that alone (dry weight 360 lbs).

To a lesser extent, mini cooper drivers are kinda the same way. A lot of the times when driving my mini cooper and passing other mini cooper drivers, I could get a wave and I wave back, or I wave and get a wave back. But yeh, mini cooper drivers don’t seem to do meet ups though… There’s a definate feeling of being a part of the motorcycling world when riding on the road. You’ll love it. ^_^

Yeh, I completed the course in early April this year and started riding with the cagers about a week later. There’s benefits to being an older rider (36 yrs. old) and having no experience. While I do like to drive/ride fast, I don’t swerve in and out of lanes and make sure to keep plenty of open space on all sides of me. I defintately have my head on a swivel when driving and riding. Taking the MSF with 0 experience is beneficial in that you haven’t developed any bad riding habits. The safety topics, techniques, and riding common sense takes a hold better and seems more reasonable thus helping in keeping the topics and suggestions stuck in your head. If you came in with some riding experience, you might’ve developed some bad technique habits as well as dangerous misconceptions/attitudes. While I might need to have an adrenline rush here and there, I certainly don’t have a death wish. It’s cool to ride safe. It’s uncool to be splattered on the road. At least that’s my story, and I’m sticking to it… ^_^

Ben has a zx-6r. He’d know best if that would make a good beginner’s bike. A couple of good ones in the 650cc range are the kawasaki 650r or the sv650s. The 2008 sv650 comes now as the sv650sf which includes all the fairings. I think both bikes come with abs options as well. The 2008 sv650sf basically looks like my 2007 sv650s after i added the lower fairings. Both of these bikes sport a wide powerband, linear throttle power delivery, and are quite nimble as well as sporty looking.

As long as you don’t total your ninja 250, they hold their value really really well. The reason being there’s not a shortage of new riders that are looking for used ninja 250s to learn on. Anyhoo when buying the bike from a dealer haggle on the gear. At least here in california, it’s not uncommon to hear about getting a free helmet or free jacket, etc. when buying a new bike.

something about the best layed plans of mice and men… Sounds like you had quite an adventure, but you made it through and it sounds like you got some good experience out of it. It’s better to be alive than a not-alive sports rider… ;-)

Ride your ride and ride safe. ^_^
