Hey Guys,
Just wondering how you guys broke in your bikes? I just picked up mine yesterday and the dealer told me that the manufacturer suggested under 4000 rpm’s for the break in(which is ridiculous) So he said just like under 8000 and not too hard is good. But I have heard that is actually better to run it hard initially to seal the valves in the bike. I read the Motoman break in suggestions. I have kept it under 9000 rpm’s, with the occasional 10,000 touch, but have accelerated hard up through the gears. I know there are so many myths out there as to how to do it properly, but was just wondering how everyone else did theirs.
Oh and i have an 08 ninja 250R. big surprise right??

Edit: after re-reading that thread, it appears there’s quite a few people that followed the manufacturer’s recommendations to a ‘T’…

the break in period is basically allowing metal from the pistons to transfer to the bore and vice versa, which removes any play and leaking in the system and greatly reduces the friction of these parts moving against each other… this is actually very similar to breaking in brake pads, you start off slow with moderate braking and slowly step it up…
at the risk of sounding sexist, pretend your bike is a woman… if you want her to stick around for a while, buy her flowers first
