ParticipantI see a couple of problems…
#1. That helmet looks way too big on you.
#2. Are you sure you can even throw your leg over that thing?HAHA!

Participantheck, one day you’ll outgrow that 650r… why not just move straight to a hayabusa or zx-14r?
just kidding. The 650r should make a decent first bike with the same caveats regarding the sv650. Either choice you’re thinking would be fine especially if you’re already comfortable riding on 2 wheels.

ParticipantI’ll just list dislikes… assume anything else you can think of as being either a like or a doesn’t bother me…
SV650S
1. Suspension. Cheap components and very little adjustment.
2. The stock slipon. Huge, ugly, heavy, and sounds like a wimpy lawn mower.
3. The stock tires. Absolute crap.
4. Stock rearsets. Funky foot peg angle, no adjustability.Ducati 848
1. Expensive. Replacing OEM plastics and hard parts is not for the faint of heart.
2. Complex. Lots of hidden bolts. For instance taking off the plastics was a total pain in the ass.
3. stock rear sets. Don’t like ’em. Had plenty of issues of outside foot slipping when hanging off.
4. Stock tires. Don’t get me wrong, Diablo Corsa III’s are good quality tires, but I don’t like the feel of them. They take a bit to warm up and i find them too sticky. I prefer the feel of my pilot powers. Hardly any warm up time needed and I like the way they slightly slip and grab.megaspaz
ParticipantNot sure what everyone’s deal is with the seat… never had an issue with the seat… done quite a few 300 mile days without being worse for wear… and my butt is most definately not made of right angles…

Participantfor your dislikes:
1. 55 mpg is actually pretty damn good for a sports tourer bike more on the sporty side. If you go with a full on super sport, expect even worse gas mileage.
2. tuck! The sv650s is designed with a less agressive head light fairing. You can fully tuck underneath that double bubble windscreen… It means putting your chest on the tank.
3. no arguments here. Stock rearsets do suck on this machine.

Participantyour rear wheel didn’t lock. It chattered. The only way to lock your rear wheel is to jam the rear brake. Anyhoo, welcome to the forums and keep at the plp.

ParticipantIn your situation it all depends on how your passing and at what rate you’re passing mr. truck. Assuming you’re passing on the left, are you passing in a way that you just stay on the right part of the lane or are you passing in a way that immediately puts you to the left of the lane. That extra space between you and the offending vehicle gives you the extra time to increase your options… brake, accellerate more, keep your delta, honk, flip off driver, etc… Is your delta just barely passing? ie. vehicle going 60mph, you passing at 65mph… then you’re passing wrong. In your situation if you’re just about done passing offending vehicle, why would there be a danger of him drifting or mergine into your lane? You should already be at a delta to be safely pass the vehicle and out of the vehicle’s blind spot, ie. there’s no way the driver shouldn’t see you. I’ve personally, never had that happen to me. I’ve had vehicles merge/drift into my lane when i was directly adjecent to the vehicle, but never when the nose of my bike was just slightly passed their vehicle. If the drifting starts when youre adjacent or in the vehicle’s blind spot, i’d say it’s a personal choice on whether to brake or accellerate (i’d highly suggest always using the horn though). But by saying you’re just about done passing means you’re basically passed the vehicle at a faster delta rate already. Not saying your situation couldn’t happen, it just seems unlikely… the driver would have to be completely stupider than the average driver (possible), the driver would have to be having a really bad day and just itching to run you over (slightly possible), or the DMV is giving licenses to legally blind folk (unlikely). Either way, I would contend that any time accelerating is your only option just means you’ve done a lot of stuff wrong beforehand already regarding S.E.E…
