Yep, that I agree with what Sangria7 said.
More so if some dealers won’t let you sit on their bikes in the showroom (or have signs saying “Do NOT sit on Bikes” such as Champion Cycle, *sigh*).
If you wanna see how they fit/feel (and maybe ride), look at some of the various motorcycle shows that might show up in your area. Like, recently here in Chicago, there was the IMS Motorcycle Show. Definitely great to see all the various makes and models, see how they look and feel and talk with some of the Reps. Or get pics of the Booth babes.
Here’s the link to the IMS: http://www.motorcycleshows.com/
Another option, although a bit more limited, would be to check out some of the rally’s. Like the Daytona Rally which is going on this week in Florida.
KellisanthParticipantThis is what I got “quoted” for, from Progressive.com and Geico.com when I was looking around. Mind you, I’m close to 40 (i’m maintaining and holding 39, dagnabbit!) and have had no tickets or incidents in the past 20+yrs. Of course, I haven’t had a motorcycle during that period either, nor a car at the time. Rentals don’t count as owning it.
I’m not sure what’s a good “insurance” package is, in regards to amounts to look for. It’s been a looong time since I used insurance. And even then, it was mainly liability. 😮
I probably could have lied and said I had insurance in the past XXX months, but I’m sure they probably look things like that up.
Now, if I only knew what I should have, as a minimum … and not overdo it?
If anything, discounts with Riding Courses, Safe Driving Record and such are factored in.
Progressive quoted me the same price for the 250 and 500, at the minimum level. Hrmm…

Unless you know the age of the helmet, the condition its been in (been dropped, stored properly etc etc) … that’s one thing I wouldn’t really want to mess with, safety wise.
Of course, that might be rumours, but I would err on the safe side to be honest. At least you know, when you buy a new one, it WILL fit you properly. And not rattle your head about like a mexican jumpin’ bean in a tin can.
But the rest of the kit though, how does it fit? too roomy, or too tight? Any tears or stress?
KellisanthParticipantHere in Chicago, sales tax is like 10%, so any savings returned will be of much help overall.
Although I get fuzzy and confused when it comes to numbers. 😮
KellisanthParticipant*looks in the trunk* Nope.
Anyway…
Is there a way to add a “flag” command, so that we could tag a message as being spam or report a post?
Would help other than having to find the “leave a note” to Ben and such.
KellisanthParticipantOh! Geico’s Kawasaki friendly eh? m/ o/ Woot! I didn’t know that.
I’m going to assume that discounts don’t stack eh? (RoK, AMA, MSF, etc).
I’ll keep this info in mind then, thanks!
KellisanthParticipantHow about Rider magazine? Or some of the club magazines (e.g., RoK’s Accelerate mag), or maybe something like the Cycle Focus (think that’s more a seller type mag)
I read a lot of UK magazines, which is kinda bad.
US mags, I’ve read (or sub) are CW, Sports Rider, Super Streetbike, Motorcyclist
KellisanthParticipantAnyone tried out Icon’s MilSpec stuff?
Their vests or their backpacks?

I might be a bit old and slow, but I like gadgets and techie stuff!
I thought of the Blackberry, but didn’t want to pay the additional fee for the bb-data.
And I don’t stick phones in my pockets… Hip holster, yes. But pockets no. The vibrate function doesn’t do a thing for me.

KellisanthParticipantI recently picked up a pair of Forma boots (Street Evo) at the IMS here in Chicago last weekend. They’re not racing boots per se, but I guess more Touring type. Not really armoured. I probably could have gone with a racing set, but it’s something I learn I guess. If anything, these are probably a better choice than my Doc Martens, if I were to ride.
I’ve got pics, and still wearing them to/from work (bus/train) with the periodic walking I have to do to get to the said locations of bus/train/work area. It’s also another way of breaking them in, before I get a bike and ride. Working on a review, based on the non-riding viewpoint at the present of these boots.
KellisanthParticipantPersonally, I use a Palm Treo (755p) thru Sprint which is pretty decent for what I do overall. And I don’t talk much on the phone, if any!
My previous service was with AT&T/Cingular (nokia phones). I might go back to them just for the iPhone. To be honest, I’m a Mac user. Unless I can get Sprint to make use of the iPhone. 😮
Partly the reason why I switched to Sprint was that my contract with AT&T/Cingular was up (didn’t realise I was w/o a contract for almost a year!) and thru work, I get about 25pct off, as compared to 15~20pct with AT&T (need to look at that again).
I’m not too much into the Blackberry, but then again, I haven’t used it much myself. The iPhone, I’ve seen and used a friends (to see the features and such) thus like that a lot more. The only glitch I see on that, is that unlike my Palm, I cannot upgrade the storage capacity.
However, the applications available for the iPhone can’t be scoffed at, as compared to what’s available for the Palm.
KellisanthParticipantHi dcJohn!
Yeah, I have a couple of Tamracs (Adventure 8, Adventure 9) presently. Love Tamracs. My camera bodies are a 400D and a 50D. Lenses are like 50mm, 10-22mm, 17-85mm, 75-300mm and such. And the accessories too.
The Adv 9 would be nice to carry around, esp with my laptop in tow, but I wonder at the added weight, esp when it moves around in how it would affect me when riding along at highway speeds. The smaller (Adv- I don’t think would be that trouble some since it can’t carry a laptop. but either way, a crash on both would royally suck.
As for garb, yeah, been thinking of the brigh neon green jackets and helmet. Forgot the name of the jacket I saw. Seen a iCon Mil-Spec jacket, but I dunno. Leather would be a cooker in the heat/humidity though. 😮
I’m kinda map-impaired, thus was thinking of a GPS. And ouchers on the prices.
Just trying to figure out what mods/enhancements can be done to the 250, and how much things will cost there too. Other than the windscreen and exhaust, what other mods/changeouts are done on a 250?
