Conga-rats dude!
Keep on rollin’!
KellisanthParticipantFreeway bars??
KellisanthParticipantGlad you’re safe!
Now you’re making ME nervous. And worst part is, I don’t live in the country anymore… All these cars!
KellisanthParticipantTenetively, I will probably look into getting these little things to check out this week… Along with some things to replace the stock horn with something more louder.
The round disks on the mirror, not the one on the end of the bar grips (that thing costs $50USD – WHOA)

Adding a blind spot mirror to your stock mirrors
Here’s a mod that will make your bike safer. For $2.58 at Autozone you can get two convex mirrors that are angled toward the outside. These mirrors will help you see your blind spots and cars behind you. They’re also good for seeing more of the lanes next to you.
Stick them on the inner lower corner of the mirrors (where all you can usually see is your shoulders) or outer lower corners. Which mirrors you buy, and where you put them, will be largely a matter of personal preference. You can get 1″ or 2″ round or rectangular mirrors. Here is a combination of BikeMaster 1″ convex mirrors & a CRG blind sight mirror. This member says: “I can see everything behind me.”

KellisanthParticipantPersonally, since I really have no place to offload the used oil, I would very likely go to the shop to get the oil changed. Mind you, some places can get pricey when you do that. Unless you have a service contract, or know the folks really well.
But if I had a auto shop nearby where I can give them my used oil, then yeah, I would definitely change the oil myself. Having done it on my car (many many years ago) a lot, it’s quite easy at times (although I hate getting dirty).
A center stand would be handy for such a thing, I would think, if your bike has it.
Don’t forget to check the oil screen!
March 14, 2009 at 4:18 am in reply to: What you’d be seeing if you got a tank slapper from doing a wheelie at 90+mph #17043KellisanthParticipantHehe. Wallets. That I can understand. Did some Vol.Firefighting a long time ago, and seen stuff.
A friend of mine, she’s diabetic thus got a tattoo of the Diabetic Medic Alert tag on her wrist. Of course, if zombies come along and tear her limbs off, it won’t do any good.
I’ve thought of getting one of those UTags – http://www.utagice.com/ – but do wonder how many EMT/PM/FR are going to have laptops open and ready when coming across a scene, just to pop one of those USB thingies in. Thus didn’t opt to buy one, for the present time.
I *DO* plan to make up a small list for emergency contacts and medical info, stick one in the small trunk space of the bike, one in my wallet, and another in my jacket pocket (with the license/registration/insurance papers).
KellisanthParticipantI’m blaming my co-workers (three ladies have Harleys).
And Flo too. http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=61995217464&ref=mf
And insurance wise, Progressive was cheaper for me than Geico! 😮 By about 300!
KellisanthParticipantThanks for the feedback. I’ve been wondering about the usage overall, in regards to short trips (tooling about the neighborhood), or long stretch commutes (45mins for me, each way – and I am not sure about doing highways yet!)
I’ve never worn ear plugs (other than the plugs that goes with the iPod) thus not sure how I will end up using them yet. Or which brands.
Working at the airport, when I was in Operations, I’ve worn ear muffs, but that’s basically it. I’ve had high decible hearing loss already in one ear before I started working for the airline (inherited, I was told) ~ also one reason why I was Medically Disqualified.
Will have to remember to pick up some and give various ones a try.
In one of my favourite UK magazines, found the article I was looking for, in regards to earplugs. Not sure if they (products) are in the states or not. http://tinyurl.com/aegsqk
This magazine – http://www.motorcyclenews.com/Ride/ – is prob one of my faves overall, coming from the UK. Not that I have anything against like “What Bike”, “Fast Bikes”, “Super Bike” or “Performance Bike” (think there was a few others). At times, they come with nifty stuff (one was a little tyre pressure gauge, another was a set of gel handgrips). Super Bike had a nice calender.
Now to figure out why my Bell bucket seems to be fitting loose… *confused*
KellisanthParticipantSeriously.
I think each person going thru training will experience it differently. Whether from a newbie standpoint, or an experienced person going thru the basics (whether court ordered, or retrain skills long since unused).
Since my riding training doesn’t specifically say MSF, I’m curious as to how it will be.
I’ll have to keep notes when I go thru mine next week. And I am *NOT* looking forward to riding in the cold of the 30s! *shiver*
March 12, 2009 at 12:03 am in reply to: What you’d be seeing if you got a tank slapper from doing a wheelie at 90+mph #16998KellisanthParticipantDang! Okay, now I’m not too thrilled.
How does ONE avoid doing wheelies (and wtfrak are stoppies!?) in the first place?
KellisanthParticipantHello!
Yeah, I have my bike waiting for me in storage, but waiting to take my course next week, and hopefully get my license endorsed the week after that.
I’m just not sure how difficult the test is, especially since my ride time will be quite limited. 😮 But I’m sure I will be okay. If not, I’ll just be broke. :o) I’m just not sure if I should even try to ride around with it until then. I’ve yet to find a “practice” spot nearby to really do such a thing. And parking too. Ooops. That’s what I really need to work on. And insurance.
How’s the weather for you up in CT? Warm enough, or cold like in Chicago?
Cheer up! The end of the month is almost here! Spring!
KellisanthParticipantWelcome to BBM!
North Shore eh? Er, which North Shore? Not Chicago right?
KellisanthParticipantWelcome to the forums!
So, tell us some of yourself, and what plans you’ve got in mind for the present and future.
KellisanthParticipantCutting things out (like, no need to buy 6-10 15USD magazines every month, don’t need cable -other than the internet-, go on a student food budget *haha* and other stuff) …
Between two dealers … one had a 2004 EX500 with over 5500 miles. Another had a 2005 EX500 with only 47 miles. Both were priced the same. Guess which one I went for?
I’m scheduled for a Rider’s Course next week, and hopefully pass the test on the 25th.
And figure out how to fit “Kitsune” into a small six-character plate.
Now, to see about installing a fuel filter, upgrade the stock windscreen… hrmm… what else…
Star Wars – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvebZ59zwGE
KellisanthParticipantOoooh! Never thought of it that way, SCR! I’ll give that a try next time. Thanks for giving some ideas on how to get around that lil’ problem. I usually follow the signages and don’t question them. Don’t always think outside the box. Will have to work on that in the future.
Not many Kawasaki dealers near me in the City, thus rather limited on location and distance.
And I dress properly! (hides the corona t-shirt, flip-flops)
