ParticipantThat’s not bad at all. Much cheaper than mine (think it was like 318/year or so, something like 28/month) and I took a 250 deduct. I think my coverage was a little higher, but still, 262/year is quite good!

ParticipantWelcome aboard!
Say, ya’ll got some pretty good scenery up there, eh? Especially during the fall?
Kellisanth
ParticipantWelcome aboard and congrats!
I know what you mean with the spring being wet (and cold, well at least here en chicago!) and no real seat time ‘cos of work.
It looks like you two are doing good, in regards to classes and being prepared.
Talk with Elwood, ‘cos he’s also a 883 Rider.

ParticipantThe “Remove before flight” keychain I got from one of our workshops (I work for an airline). It was one of those “get togethers and know your airline partners” type of functions that gave out trinkets and such. I think that was one of the coolest thing I got out of that, aside from some pens (bleh), booklets/bookmarkers and some other stuff.
It’s actually pretty handy ‘cos I sometimes forget about keys.
and it’s easy for me to pull out of my jacket or bag/pants/pockets instead of fumbling around trying ot feel for a particular key (when I have other keys in the pockets).
There are several aviation sites that sells them, with prices varying between 3USD up to 7USD. Although I’m not sure which one is best ‘cos I’m looking around myself trying to snag a few more for some friends.

ParticipantOh very nice! Love the silvery colour.
And congrats!

ParticipantFor some folks…
For me, that was a bit too high to try and mount…. 😮
But it sure looked fun for those tall folks who rode them.

Woot! Congrats!
Yep, time to start paying those bills!
Enjoy the new ride when you get it!

ParticipantNavy flyboy, eh?
What do you fly?
Could always go for the bike that Tom Cruise (“Maverick”) rode in Top Gun!
But seriously, yeah… Don’t all branches require MSF/Rider Course training, or was that primarily the Marines?
I haven’t seen a B.Blast yet, but the 250Rs I have and they were fun.

ParticipantWith Progressive, I pretty much went full (Comprehensive) with $250 Deduct.
And this was on a Used EX500. Financed.
You never know.
And unless you’re in a club (like, AMA or RoK), having some roadside assistance can be helpful too. Be prepared.

ParticipantHello! Ducati’s are pretty, yes.
As for the License…
Your DL still has the M endorsement right? If so, then there’s no need to retest. Really. Unless you let your license lapse a long time ago and never renewed it.
If you need to get a M endorsement again, you’ll very likely will need to take the Written test at the DMV to get the Permit. After that, take your test (if you have a friend’s bike to use) or use the bike from a trainer.
If possible and if you haven’t ridden on a motorcycle in a while, take the Motorcycle Basic Riding Course, as a refresher. Just in case. In some states, doing the BRC gives you access to the M endorsement after completing their course, therefore bypassing the DMV riding test.
If not that, then the trainers usually have DMV folks at their places that will give tests on the bikes you’ve rode on.
Many places giving training will have bikes and partial kit (mainly gloves/helmets) to use thus really no need to bring your own. In general, they mostly use 250 – although I read in Sports Rider (I think) that one place used Ducati’s which must have been a treat; however I think that might have been a one time thing in showing off their bike. And they’re generally a three day thing, at least mine was. 1 day was classroom (a couple of hours), two days of riding (about 5hrs each). If you miss a day, you loose out on a couple hundred dollars or more. 😮

ParticipantUm, ooookay… Bye…
/me looks for the Emo violin.
And to be honest, my work gets picky with passwords (have to change every 90 days *AND* can’t be the same password that was used the last 10 times!).
And my banks gets picky on passwords too. No simple passwords. And sometimes, I have to go thru password verifications if I don’t use them for a while. 😮 Which is a pain when I can’t remember what my password hints are/were.

ParticipantAwww hey, what’s wrong with scooters? Or the Ninja?
And what’s over the hill to you?
Mind you, I’m in a holding pattern at 39, and didn’t think the EX500 (Ninja) was that bad of a influence when I got it.
If I had the chance, I would have gotten the 250 instead…
During my BRC, I rode various 250s such as the Nighthawks, Rebels, Viragos and the Eliminators which were all pretty fun to ride on.
Although I think I’m more of a sports sitting type person than the cruising type? I just like curling/folding my legs up, not having them sticking out in front of me. 😮
Kellisanth
ParticipantOh hey, congrats!
Kellisanth
ParticipantYeah, the TMAX looks very pretty, but the insurance is ouchers when I was looking at it to get some ideas. 😮 And weight wise, is the same as the EX500 give or take a few kilos, and maybe a lil’ different seating wise by a few mm.
Parking wise though, it will be rather difficult to park it properly according to chicago rules/laws I think! I haven’t seen one in person yet (unless they had it at IMS’09 and I overlooked it) thus not sure how it compares to to like the Concours.
Lately, been carrying my camera kit (backpack) with tripod about lately, thus looking at different riding options.
How many folks here ride or have given Scooters a thought? And do other cities consider them “M” regardless of cc, or do something like “L” 50cc up to 150cc and anything over 150cc the rider needs a “M”. (sub-50s just need a DL here)

ParticipantWhen I was taking the BRC on the 250s, I had to be kept reminded on not covering the front brakes, and when I did use the brakes, to use all four fingers instead of just using the index/middle fingers when braking.
When I was riding my 500 about, I was still using the index/middle on the front levers.
The main times I’ve covered/clenched the front with four fingers was when I was mounting, or sitting at a stop.
To me, I think it’s a matter of personal preference of the rider, and how comfortable their hands are in relation to the lever and finger/hand grip. I could be wrong?
