What should I be looking for as a beginner?
PS, I really like Progressive’s dinker-with-stuff-and-see-the-price interface. I must have spent literally two hours when it came to getting my car insurance at AAA bugging the sales rep to keep tweaking and figure out the differences until the premium really sky-rocketed from the level below.
May 26, 2009 at 12:03 pm #18943Sangria7ParticipantI always go for full comprehensive insurance…
May 26, 2009 at 2:12 pm #18944briderdtParticipant…you may be required to provide “full” coverage. I’ve got full on mine, with a $500 deductible, and it only added $85 a month (for my bike and my wife’s).

And this was on a Used EX500. Financed.
You never know.
And unless you’re in a club (like, AMA or RoK), having some roadside assistance can be helpful too. Be prepared.

[

For my bike it was the difference between $1400 and $430 a year between companies. You have to find which one of the insurance companies you fall into their sweet spot. For me it was state farm.
May 28, 2009 at 7:07 am #19000SafetyFirstParticipantI’m wondering how smart it is for bare-bones coverage like I show in that quote.
Let’s face it, in almost any situation where I’d be at fault that I can think of, the cager is going to get off pretty cheap damage-wise and will get minor injuries.
I’d rather focus on collision coverage.
PS… the price through Progressive for the above, with Comprehensive changed to $100 deductible is $262/yr. Not bad for a new rider?
May 28, 2009 at 12:51 pm #19005KellisanthParticipantThat’s not bad at all. Much cheaper than mine (think it was like 318/year or so, something like 28/month) and I took a 250 deduct. I think my coverage was a little higher, but still, 262/year is quite good!
