    Have you tried removing the battery for about 20 minutes? I know in cars that will reset the computer, so maybe by removing the dip stick you made the oil pressure fluctuate enough to trigger some kind of engine cut off to protect it self. Just a thought. I hope you get bak up and running soon!

    I think it is the the weight that is the big difference.
    This is what I drive/ride and my real world mpg
    2007 Suzuki GS500f 58-63 mpg, weight 396.8 pounds, Horsepowe 47
    2005 Suzuki Forenza 27-30 mpg,weight 2701 pounds, Horsepower 126
    Car= 21 pounds per 1 horsepower
    Bike = 8.42 pounds per 1 horsepower
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power-to-weight_ratio
    just so you know I am not an engineer, I just play one on TV.

    ShannonG what car do you drive?

    Ok kids, what did we learn?
    I learned it is 90% skill and 10% bike that makes a good, fun, and safe rider!
    Are Goldwings about 900 pounds? That is a lot ( I mean SH*& load ) to toss around.

    I keep my bike key on the small end of a detachable ring. That way all that is hanging from my bike is the small leather fob. I am mostly worried about scratches.

    I try and do all the maintenance myself. I live in a condo with just a covered car port like you, so working on your bike is a pain. I try and do it late at night so not to piss the neighbors off. The largest expense is time! I am not much of a machanic so books and extra time is needed for me. Here is what I have spent in the last year – oil change $50 each + 1 hour (I change it every 3k miles, plus the first change after 600 miles, with Mobil 1) – Chain Cleaning and Lube $35(the can of spray seems to last forever) + 20 minutes every 600 miles – System Check, I check every cable, nut and screw, every 1k miles $? I have not had any broken parts yet + 1.5 hours – Gear $800 – No modifications yet but you can spend a lot

    I am a huge fan of the show and they did bust the steel toe amputation myth.

    But I am not sure how good steel caps would be on a bike.

    I remember reading some where, that the majority of accidents happen less than 5 minutes from home and under 35 mph. If I run across that info again I will be sure to post it. I really feel like ATGATT. Plus when I walk into the grocery store I want people to know I just got off my bike (especially any possible mates). Face it bikes are cool, and so are bikers so why not take advantage of it!

    This spring I filled the tank as high as I could get it (gas was cheap that day). After a 10 minute ride and sitting in the sun for another 10 minutes gas started to flow out a small tube under the frame of the bike. I totally panicked and called the dealer asap. After a couple of questions he new exactly what I did and told me not to worry and burn off as much gas off as I could on the next ride, and to leave at least a 1/4 inch gap between the gas and the filler tube in the tank just below the cap. It also said it in the manual. How I missed that I dunno.
