ParticipantI had a 1987 k75T prior to my 1985 K100, bullet proof engine, spline lube job every other year require taking off the rear end completely, brake hoses are sh!t replace them with steel braded ones if you can find them, the forks are a bit soft if you havn’t put Progressive fork springs in them.
Very mild mannor bikes, very comfortable for pasengers.. especially with a Corbin seat.A
ParticipantI have had 3 Bandits in my garage, first one was a 2001 Bandit 600, I bought it in the late fall/winter to try it out since it was so cheap, $1400 w/14500 mi. on the odometer.
Rock solid engine, easy maintenance, decent power but for the weight it might as well be a 1200cc.. that’s why I sold it it and bought a 2003 Bandit 1200 from a salvage yard, it had a clean title, needed turn signals/brake/clutch lever and such, I pieced it back together and rode it for over 5000 mi. and sold it for a good profit. the Bandit 1200 engine has much more lower torque and a good kick once it’s reved up, nearly 100hp for only a few pounds more than the Bandit 600.
My current Bandit is a 2001 Bandit 1200, bought it for $2000 last Oct, w/95xx mi., stage 1 jet kit, slip-on exhaust, timing advance and new tires all installed. I had to replace a oil-cooler line myself, but that was a 1/2 hr job when I change the oil in the winter.
01-05 Bandits are very cheap to buy/own, very easy to maintain, and very little maintenance is needed.

ParticipantI test rode a MP3 250 when I was shopping for a scooter.
I don’t particularly see much advantage over regular two-wheel scooters. MP3 weighs significantly more, cost more when you need to replace tires, brake pads and suspension. No advantage to fuel economy, even conpared to similar displacement motorcycles. Niche product, yes.. handles that much better than a 250cc two-wheel scooter? debatable.A
ParticipantSNELL, DOT, EU certification mean little to me, real helmet test do not take place in labs. Personally, I try to find the lightest helmet that fit my head, so it cuses me the least strain while wearing it and protects me properly in the worse case.

ParticipantDepending on how much dirt riding you plan to get into: where are you from, what kind of speed to you plan to travel on the pavement and off the pavement.
To treuly able to enjoy dirt riding, I need a dual sport bike under 400 lb., prefereably under 350 lb. even… any heavier, you might as well ride a street bike that you can enjoy riding in the street.
Dual sport bikes at highway speed with knobby tires isn’t something enjoyable (nor safe) for much distance.

ParticipantLook where you want to go.. if you look down, you go down… not that difficult.

ParticipantI might get to ride down to Daytona for Bike Week from NJ.. my last day of work if Friday.

ParticipantIs there a possibility that he’s not even running on pavement?

ParticipantDon’t know what the surface condition is like in Chile.. but I change my tire pressure according to road surface, or trail surface..
I’ve ridden a KTM 640 Adv. from coast to coast, 5-600 miles a day on pavement is no problem with tube/tire combination with myself at 160 lb. and 80+ lb. of gear.

ParticipantMight drop your bike easier, too..

ParticipantOne of my very good friend used to ride a Maurader 800, we traded rides a few times when I was visiting during Daytona BikeWeek.. that bike’s got some torque down low.. be careful.

Quote:To me, that “self control” thing is like saying you would put a 15 year old in a formula one race car for drivers ed . . kind of stupid, right? Self control is required on a 250, SKILL is required on a super sport. That looks like your opinion, not facts. The fact is “self control” is needed for everthing we intend to do, simple as that.. no amount of skill will allow you to do what you want if you can not control yourself.
A
ParticipantWhatever dude, if you can’t control yourself would you have any skill?
