Anyone know what an average MSF course will run me? I’m wondering if I should pay double what a friend told me it costs, or if he was full of it.
(I’m going to take it either way, just price dictates WHERE)
February 9, 2010 at 7:17 pm #24477AParticipantFree in PA.. just have to register early.
February 9, 2010 at 7:22 pm #24478eonParticipantVaries a lot from state to state. Subsidized cost in WA is I think around $120, but there are unsubsidized courses available. Costs more but availability is better. Can’t you do a search to see what is available in your area? Doesn’t matter much what your friend told you if there are no classes available at that price.
February 9, 2010 at 8:09 pm #24479briderdtParticipantSubsidized is $125 (which means a valid WA wtate driver’s licence), otherwise $250.
I’ve heard IL is $20.
February 10, 2010 at 12:02 am #24483IxecapadeParticipantyour friend I paid 295 in jersey and that was through the Camden College. Riders Edge at the Harely was 305 or so- it was only a little more expensive.
check out the DMV MVC or what have you and local colleges.
February 10, 2010 at 1:24 am #24489IBA270Participantis normally set by the state. Usually, there is a MAX amount…riders edge can be more expensive, but it’s the same course.
February 10, 2010 at 7:30 pm #24508CBBaronParticipantIn Ohio it is $25 for the state sponsored course and ~$300 for the private courses like Harley Riders Edge.
Check your state DMV or BMV first and if your state does not subsidize the course expect to pay around $300 or a little under. If like Ohio or PA it is basically free, expect those courses to have long waiting lists so get on them early.Craig
February 10, 2010 at 8:16 pm #24510DuBeyParticipantI just signed up for mine through the local Harley dealer and it ran me $275.
On a side note I’m pretty excited, I’ve been lurking here, acquiring gear and reading everything I can and now soon to be taking my course in a few weeks. (They fill up quick here so I signed up rather early.) Then it will be on to bike shopping! Thank goodness I stumbled onto this website when I first started researching motorcycles, it’s been enlightening.
February 15, 2010 at 5:49 am #24547gattonParticipantHere in North Carolina the price seems to be about $170 at the local community colleges. I believe the Harley Dealerships charge $295. Hopefully I will be able to take the course in the spring or summer.
February 20, 2010 at 4:19 am #24564George_RiderParticipantThe max for NYS is $350 for a 3 day course. I’m excited as well I’m scheduled on March 31 – April 2nd.
February 21, 2010 at 6:12 am #24615megaspazParticipant250 in california if you’re 21 and over. 150 otherwise.
February 22, 2010 at 5:09 am #24412IxecapadeParticipantits 150 if u are U21? wow thats bushleague! I would have thought it would have been more expensive for younger folks! interesting- learn something new every day!
February 22, 2010 at 6:20 am #24413SantaCruzRiderParticipantYep, here in Cali, some things are cheaper for the younger set, including BRC, health and life insurance, and usually alimony.
February 22, 2010 at 6:24 am #24434WetmelonParticipantI’m looking at $430 for Ontario, or wait to go back to NC and pay $250, according to friend. Sounds like the $250 is within normal cost…
February 22, 2010 at 7:01 am #24617eonParticipantOntario as in Canada? If so you might be comparing apples and oranges. The Canadian training might be more intensive than the BRC (you might even get some training on public roads). If so it might be worth the extra money but I’m not sure how you transfer licences between countries.
