No pun intended, but at weight of 300 lb., probably best to avoid any impact while operating a moto.
Try and find a moto with nice wide/big rear tire, Yamaha Virago or Honda Magna type moto would probably serve ok.

Be careful with a windshield, lightweight moto’s handling might be effected when 18-wheeler on the BQE get close to you at highway speed, especially when you have a windshield.

    A, you don’t own a motorcycle,
    you own a collection !

I change motos like I change shirts.. I find them cheap on Craigslist, ebay, what not.. fix them up and sell them. Just sold my Bandit and Ninja 250 this week.

Speed is your friend, gives you stability to stay upright, point the front wheel where you want to go and give it more throttle..

The main thing is avoid drastic directional or velocity changes while on loose surface, keep your momentum until you ride through the loose gravel.. or when you have better traction.

If you absolutely have to stop on loose surface, make sure you allow plenty of run off room to scrub speed without using brakes, as you apply the brakes to slow down, you should progressively use less brakes as you get close to a complete stop.

It’s those small mishaps that make you learn important lessons without permanent injuries, hopefully.
One thing about gravel is to keep your momentum, sudden changes to direction of travel or velocity can quickly loose traction, even from 10 mph. Sometimes it might be better to continue at 10 mph or even accelerate a little to gain stability, before you find solid ground that provide better traction.
Sometimes these lessons can only be learn by falling.. hopefully it’s not too expensive of a mishap.

    +1 on SV650s

I personally ride semi-slick on the dirt.. even with hard luggage, bike’s a nice beginner ride and as your skills improves, it will continue to serve well:

    Resale value difference..

For one, Hyosung is going to be crap when you out grow it and try to sell it.

You can probably find a pre-08 Ninja 250 w/low miles under the price of a new Hyosung 250, and still sell it for decent amount, if not more than you spent.

Lack of “mom on cell phone in minivan full of kids” really makes blind corners that much easier.. on the track.

I do love a good video with good sound clip.. such as the F1 engine.

I can’t think of “m”any track with blind corers… most track corners I can think of are visible well through… with exception of the “corkscrew” in Laguna Seca.

Just like driving through blind corners, you’ll get used to it as you get more familiar with your ride & skills.
