Wow, that’s pretty high for the rear. MOM says 32 rear and 40 front. I’m currently running 40/40. I’m open to going a little higher on the rear but 45-48 seems really high. And lower in front? I guess I’ve never seen that recommendation. Interesting.
I’m not sure what my suspension is set at but I’m around 180 pounds. I guess I should check that. I really expect the Metzelers to last a lot longer.
ScottyJParticipantSpaz, glad you’re rocking out and enjoying your rides. My only regret so far is waiting so long to start riding.
Munch, I’m still a little wary about riding when it’s wet. That’s about the only time some paranoia sets in. And I’m sure it’s just a lack of confidence.
I changed out the back so soon because it was already worn out. Trust me, I was not happy about it. But I figured since I was replacing it, I might as well go a little fatter. And now guess what I need to replace… The front tire. I’m going to another Metzeler, either the 80/90-21 or the 90/90-21. I swear those OEM Dunlops just did not last for me. And before anyone gives me their suggestions on psi, I will state that I originally went by the bike’s suggestions but later went more by the tire’s psi recommendations and that is what I’ll continue to do. This whole thing is a learning process for me and even though I read and listen to those wiser or more experienced than me, it’s still a process.
ScottyJParticipantToday was a beautiful day to ride and since my girlfriend got her m/c jacket on 12/31, I finally got her on the bike for about a 40 mile cruise. Everything went fine, we saw lots of other bikes and exchanged lots of waves, and just before we got home, the bike hit the big 5K mark.
Since my 4000 mile post, I replaced the back tire with the Metzeler 200/70HB-15 and switched to Amsoil 10W/40 synthetic oil. No other upgrades and still no issues.
ScottyJParticipantWhy do I need to be careful with the pockets? I figured they’d be good pockets since they’re so deep. So far the only thing I don’t like about the jacket I got is it doesn’t have any front pockets outside of the upper vents pockets. I like the clean look it has but no real outside pockets is a drawback. Oh, and as far as other jackets, I bought my first jacket from CG too, a Motoboss mesh jacket.
ScottyJParticipantI bought a nice pair of Street & Steel chaps today for $50. (http://www.cyclegear.com/spgm.cfm?L1=5000&L2=2&L3=108&L4=110&item=FMI_FMM830-BM-2XS_G) I probably wouldn’t have bought chaps but my girlfriend wanted me to get some. And I gotta admit, they feel pretty comfortable.
ScottyJParticipant
Glad you got it back up and running, Ben. Happy New Year to everyone here!ScottyJParticipantI’m guessing it’s the Dylan from the videos.

ScottyJParticipantThanks for the update, ranette. I enjoyed the video clips and I’d like to see the actual shows. I guess I’ll check for the revised schedule.
ScottyJParticipantI can’t believe no one posted to this thread. Since I own a Kawasaki, I just watched the four-part video on Kawasaki and it was excellent. I’m sure I’ll watch at least some of the others too. Thanks for posting this, I would definitely recommend watching at least the ones on the bike that you own.
ScottyJParticipantYeah, thank God for double-walled pipes.
ScottyJParticipantI would be afraid to go the razor blade route. I know some guys use Easy-Off oven spray. Others use other products. I had someone get some gunk on my tail pipes when I was riding two-up and I wiped most of it off just using a cloth when the pipes were still warm but not untouchable-y hot and I also used a little Original Bike Spirits waterless detailing spray. But be careful spraying anything that might catch fire or mar the chrome.
November 26, 2008 at 1:52 am in reply to: Pictures from Houston International Motorcycle Show #15034ScottyJParticipantI went to the show the weekend before in Dallas. Being my first m/c show, I had a great time. Didn’t get any pictures of hot chicks, except my girlfriend and my daughter , but here’s one of me on the new Kawasaki 1700 Voyager.
ScottyJParticipantBe careful!
ScottyJParticipantUnless you’ve got a reserved spot, I can’t imagine that reserving a spot by parking something there permanently is going to fly. Someone’s going to complain or, even worse, jack with it. Now, if it’s YOUR spot then go for it!
ScottyJParticipantI like that Tour Master jacket, it looks sharp. I’ve got a mesh Motoboss Jacket that I bought at the local Cycle Gear and that’s the only jacket I’ve been wearing. It was high 40’s this morning and I felt pretty good wearing that with a tee shirt and a thin dress shirt. My next jacket will be leather. The one I want is the Joe Rocket Kawasaki ZX Leather Jacket but, as I said, I might go for a hundred dollar one until I feel like dropping 300 bucks. I’m good on boots. I have some Harley Hustin (harness) boots, some $30 Icon boots, and some comfortable touring boots that I’m wearing today.
