RidleytheRedParticipant
I’ve noticed squids on crotchrockets not wearing gear will give me nasty looks if I wave.
RidleytheRedParticipantI remember seeing a trike with 2 in front one in back, called a spider something I think. Cool liitle thing though, might be fun to ride ,but the $35K pricetag said no.
RidleytheRedParticipantThere are heated jackets/gloves/etc. for that kind of riding. Meant for snowmobiles, but you can get the hookups for bikes as well.
RidleytheRedParticipantI go out if it’s above 40°F and the roads are good. Proper gear will let you ride any time.
RidleytheRedParticipantSometimes I miss them because I’m too busy paying attention to the fools in front of me. I usually only wave on small roads or highways. I don’t on the interstate or at stops for the same reasons as the above. Always fun to aknowledge others on the road though.
March 20, 2009 at 2:54 pm in reply to: MSF teaches in a parking lot…What happens when a new rider gets nervous at his/her first traffic light or in a real corner? #17187RidleytheRedParticipantMainly a matter of courtesy. He should have asked Ben first before posting that, and this isn’t Craigslist. That said, if he actually spends time here, more power to him. A lot of us are jaded to these kinds of posts becaues 99% of the time the poster just makes the one post and runs off to other sites. It’s viral marketing at it’s lowest and does more to hurt his business than help it. That’s why there are nasty reactions. It’s just like the porn sites that post on random boards, the only difference is this is somewhat context related instead of random.
RidleytheRedParticipantIf the bike is several years old, you really only need liability and maybe uninsured motorist. The other stuff is for brand new bikes.
RidleytheRedParticipantNo brands on mine. You can get them at most surplus stores or gun stores. They range about $5-15 depending where you look. Reuseable soft rubber with a case. Very comfortable too. They’re a good option if you don’t like the disposable ones.
RidleytheRedParticipantI live in a military town, so I got a set of mil-spec plugs that work great on the cheap. Cuts down a lot of noise, but you can still hear important stuff (sirens, horns, etc.)
RidleytheRedParticipant1 man, the provious owner had the seat adjusted so he could ride bobber height.
My next project/purchase will be a replacement seat or just get it repaired to the correct dimentions again.
@Megaspaz Hur hur :BMarch 12, 2009 at 1:49 am in reply to: What you’d be seeing if you got a tank slapper from doing a wheelie at 90+mph #17002RidleytheRedParticipantThat was beautiful. Now I don’t have to be curious of what a 90 MPH+ accident looks like.
RidleytheRedParticipantI haven’t read most of the posts, but I started with an ’82 Yamaha XJ650 Maxim, it’s an older bike but has an inline 4 650cc engine. It was an easy bike to start with, doesn’t weigh a lot, and power is good and easy to handle if you don’t ride like a monkey. It’s a cruiser style so there’s slightly more weight than the sport styled bikes, but I get the feeling they would handle similarly. I feel on personal experiance that 650 isn’t a bad size to start with, but the thing I think makes the big difference is how you feel on the bike before you even start the engine.
RidleytheRedParticipant1. You’re under 25 = cruddy rates for everything
2. Do you own a car = Multiple vehicle discounts are nice
3. Have you taken a MSF course? classes = discounts
4. Are you with a motorcycle club = Honda Enthusiasts, etc. = discountThere’s much more factors to insurance than you might realize, but that does sound a bit high. I’m turning 28 in April, and I’m only paying $75/yr.
RidleytheRedParticipantI’ve been to one. Smart folks don’t lodge, you get a tent and a sleeping bag and protection if you feel it nessessary and enjoy the outdoors. Food is usually not an issue either.
RidleytheRedParticipantI know huh? How’ve you been Spazz?
