ParticipantI place my tank protector ( i think there’s a pic in the pics section ) about 1/4″ below where the top of the front of the seat meats the gas tank. I think it’s pretty much personal preference though… to a degree.

ParticipantActually, the seating position is very aggressive, forward leaning. Basically, the handle bars are much lower, so when you scoot your butt back, your head dips pretty low. Very different from the sv650s.

Participantyup. and i’ve activated the front and rear abs in drills. it is a very distinct feedback. it’s not subtle at all.

Participantsaying not to get an abs street bike because you might ride a street bike without abs is like saying don’t get a car with abs because you might drive a car without abs. Poppy cock.
You can still practice proper braking technique on a bike with abs. abs equipped bikes give you feedback when it’s enabled. You will actually feel mechanically a push back on the brakes as they are forced released for a split second. When you feel that you know you’re grabbing hand full of brake. you are not limiting yourself to abs only bikes from then on. proper braking techinique is proper braking technique. abs equipped bikes do not prevent you from learning that in your emergency oh shit moment.
Yeh, on a street bike you are limiting yourself with an abs street bike… limiting the ability to do stoppies and power slide stops. *rollseyes*
abs increases stopping distance. yes, but only if it’s activated. it’s the same thing if you start grabbing a handful of brake on a non-abs bike. stopping distance is not increased if you properly apply your brakes.
if you’re looking to stack the odds more in your favor of survinging the streets, get a bike with abs. So far the argument against abs brakes on a first bike are, imo, bullshit.
Edit: every bike i plan to own will have abs brakes. you can get after market abs systems installed on most bikes nowadays. i’ll take any advantages out there that helps me keep the bike under control.

sonofagun, it’s beautiful where you’re at right now… albeit, the roads are a bit too straight for my tastes…

ParticipantNot really. I was keeping the pace. Staying about 1 sec behind Jay. But Bob’s been to THill, so I don’t think pace would spook him. It was actually a brisk mellow pace (above the speed limit, but not a lot above it). Possibly, it could be that I late apex, late brake (engine braking only) before turns, and trail brake a bit into the corners. I don’t go over DYs or foglines and no one’s taken me to the side or anything and discussed my riding style, so either I’m doing fine or people are just being too nice and only care about not binning (them or me). Mebbe I am doing fine and just a bit self conscious… BIIK…

ParticipantFrom what I could tell from my rear views, Bob and Ben took the twisties fine. Bob was behind me and Ben behind Bob. I wonder if Bob left early because I was scaring the shite out of him…

ParticipantHow about a pre-08 ninja 250? or a ninja 500? If you got the time to practice and aren’t going to be disappointed with dropping your bebbe, you could go for an SV650, 650R, or the Ducati Monster. If you go new, you’ll be shelling out at least 6K. If you go used, I’ve seen 07 sv650s’s go for about 4500 used on craig’s list.

ParticipantIt’s an OEM suzuki sv650s part. Dun know what OEM stuff they have for kawa’s… But if the dealer says kawa doesn’t make ’em, I’d be inclined to believe it… tempered with a google search that is…
