ParticipantAFAIK, UM is hyosung for all intents and purposes. There’s a couple of people here that have a hyosung and love ’em. I’ve read the responses to this company, but I’m gonna guess that there pretty old. I wouldn’t personally buy one, but there are those that haven’t had any of the issues you’ve read about them on the net. You probably want to look at reviews on the dealership instead. Every brand has issues, whether widespread or just bad luck for a few. The question is how the dealer deals with these situations.

ParticipantLooks like your pic host doesn’t like hot linking or something. All i see is a really crappy advert for some photo hosting place.

ParticipantIIRC, 280 N up to san fran isn’t very level. You’re mostly going uphill in that direction. So I can see the rebel 250 having issues in certain spots on that freeway, especially the onramps which are always going uphill at a decent grade. I’m usually going 280 S from sfo and I always seem to remember it being mostly down hill that direction…

ParticipantThe only thing that matters is if the helmet is DOT certified (assuming your in the USA). Anything after that is optional. You can find helmets that are also rated for Snell, BSI, or ECE. For clothing, leather’s where it’s at. I’m a dainese guy myself and have road tested their stuff. Alpinestars also has a great rep for style and road testing survivability. Those are the only brands I’d ever look at for OTR gear, but that’s just me. Shop around locally first to see what’s out there, what fits. Then check the internet for prices.

ParticipantI would go with the exo-700 if it was me. Scorpions are nice helmets though, but they don’t fit my head. You can pick up an agv stealth, the top of the line agv street helmet, for around 217.00 @ http://extremesupply.com/

Participantbuy her bike for cheap… and her gear if it fits… ;-P

ParticipantWelcome to the forums.
for gear, i pick leather, except for rain gear when it rains. Anything Dainese for jackets, pants, boots, and gloves. For helmets, I’m currently recommending agv. Can’t go wrong with shoei or arai either.
As far as feeling confident on the street… kind of a chicken and egg problem. you won’t start getting confidence and experience until you hit the street. I hit the street and highway 3 days after getting my bike which was about a week after passing the msf. Was I confident? I guess so… but I’d say it was more 95% stupid.

ParticipantAny riding experience? Wouldn’t be my first choice for a beginner with 0 riding experience.

ParticipantBasically, racing boots offer the best protection period, imo. Some are more comfortable to walk in than others. Any of the Dainese Torque boots fit that category. I’ve walked around plenty long times in both the Torque Out and Torque In boots. Well to be honest, the Torque boots are a little lower level than Dainese’s top of the line Axial Racer boots…

ParticipantNot sure what you meant about the track thing, but the ninja 250s do really well on the track against bigger bikes in the C group. Seen it myself. A seasoned track rider can outride a noob or intermediate rider on a bigger bike at the track.

ParticipantMy next bike will be a dual sport… something i can have fun with on the street as well as in the dirt.
