kirkParticipant
Most of the riders here are pretty friendly and you get the left hand pointing down salute. I drive a sportbike but that doesn’t seem to matter. Most of the HD and sportbike riders salute each other.
kirkParticipantVery interesting conversation. I’ve been considering getting the slider bars for my Honda CBR. The local shop tells me that they have to drill them into the frame of the bike and cut into the fairing. Does this sound about right?
kirkParticipantI live in the sun west where we have two temperatures: hot and hotter! Surprisingly enough I see most people wearing some protection, mostly just a helmet. I always have a helmet, gloves, boots, and armored jacket. July here is brutal but I figure it’s better to be hot then to be in the emergency room getting skin grafts.
By the way Elwood, I love your pavements response!!kirkParticipantI loved my class. The instructors were great and they took their time with all of us. I had never even been on a bike but I felt so confident at the end of the class. I rode every single day up and down my street. I think the neighbors were getting tired of hearing me ride up and down for 6 weeks. I still remember the first time I took my bike out on a street with traffic. Exhilarating! It’s been about two years now that I’ve been riding and I still enjoy every ride like it was my first. Can’t wait for warmer weather so I can ride every day!
kirkParticipantTake the course first. I too had no expierence on a bike. I figured I could learn on my own but that took me down the path of infernal pain. Suffice it to say I crashed twice before enrolling in the MSF course. I’ve been riding for about two years and loving every minute of it.
Go with the Yamaha. You and I are about the same size. I’m 5’11” and 224. My first bike was the Suzuki GS500F. Great bike, comfortable, affordable, and perfect for tooling about. The Yamaha seems similer to what I had and it was a great beginers bike. Good luck to youkirkParticipantHD will get the bailout then go back to the same practices that got them in trouble in the first place. It’s the American way of life! Help the rich and feed all others to the wolves!
kirkParticipantHey Budd, sorry to hear about the accident but glad you are okay. Quick question. What kind of boots did you have and where can I get some? They look great for riding. Thanks
kirkParticipantGood story but the posts were more interesting. I’m not sure what the truth behind the story is but there are some sick people out there. I am refering to the guy that boasts that he has killed one rider and injured several more! That guy is a jackass and needs to be kept away from society.
kirkParticipantAh yes, the wave. I still remember the first one that was given to me. Made me feel real stoked! I usually get mine returned and I happen to live in an unfriendly city. I think we have the most obnoxious rude people.
kirkParticipantWow! Thanks for the info. It makes sense. Just one quick question? What is the powerband?
I actually rode and practiced on the Suzuki for a little over a year before upgrading. I am by no means an expert rider but I have become much better. I love the Honda and I see many years of fun rides.kirkParticipantI just need to be clear on this. How do you pop a wheelie? Trust me, I don’t want to do it. I’m just afraid of accidentally doing one. I started riding on a Suzuki GS500F. The first week I was learning to ride I popped a wheelie and next thing I know my mirror and a few other bike parts are several feet away form the bike. Suffice it to say that I took the MSF course and I’ve been accident free since then.
Now I have a Honda CBR1000RR and I still fear popping a wheelie. My riding skills are greatly improved but that fear is there. I understand that you have to rev up the throttle and let go of the clutch suddenly. Would this be correct?September 25, 2008 at 2:25 am in reply to: MSF School: Waste of time, waste of money, both, or none of the above……Flamers flame on. #12708kirkParticipantRight on Andrew! That was also my point before I was told where to go put my head! Real adult there smokey! I hope you aren’t teaching the HS kids to resolve conflict by spewing foul names left and right.

I’ve seen disagreements and misunderstandings on these posts before but I’ve haven’t seen the level of anger you display. Everyone is civil and I think we can agree that we all just want to help each other out. Your vulgarity is uncalled for. If you value most everyones opinion on this site as little as you say you do then perhaps you should visit another site.
kirkParticipantAh don’t feel bad. About a year ago I was driving in front of my work building. As I passed I saw several of my coworkers out front. I looped around and drove into the parking lot. I stopped and got ready to put the kick stand down. I somehow missed the kickstand, lost my balance, and had my bike crash onto the ground. After quickly picking it up I noticed quite a few scratches on the side and loud howls of laughter from my coworkers!
kirkParticipantI reccomend the Joe Rocket UFO jacket. It falls below my belt line in front and maybe an inch below on the back.
