ParticipantI never drove a motorcycle until the MSF class, a 250 Rebel. I bought a Vulcan 500. It has the same engine as the Ninja 500. I am just 5’5″ and about 165 but it is a great bike for me as a beginner and I am in no hurry to move up since my bike is good at highway speeds.
Welcome and keep rockin.

ParticipantCongratulations. I went thru the course on my birthday last year and bought my bike 5 days later. I wish I would have started when I was younger.
Keep rockin!

ParticipantI was in D.C. for the 4th of July weekend, really about 5 days. There were so many motorcycles, I was missing my Kawasaki. Seems like it would be fun to ride in your city.
Keep Rockin!

ParticipantI hear so many people saying “it’s just a matter of time”. Well like on TV they only share the bad news. I would love to hear from riders who never wrecked after a life of riding and hear how they managed that.

ParticipantI wonder what the article said about a gray helmet.

ParticipantI don’t know if Squidgy sounds black, hmmm. Just joking, a black Ninja will rock!

ParticipantYou can add a Texas boy to the Vulcan 500 list. I have had my 2007 for 11 months now. It is my first bike and it handles great. I weigh about 167 and only bench, well if I can handle it I know you can too.
Keep Rockin!

ParticipantThanks for making me laugh. Dating and marriage, better to laugh than cry.

ParticipantHe told me he use to have one. I had never rode a bike before the MSF class. After that I got a Vulcan 500. It was a little scary at first to ride home when all I had been on was a little Rebel on the parking lot at MSF but I believe it has been a real confidence building bike for me. I have heard from people who got too much bike and did not want to ride. I love the 500 Vulcan.

Participantyou considered yourself tall for a female, so out of curiosity how tall are you? I am short and that is part of the reason I did not want to go with sport bike catagory.

ParticipantBeautiful bike man and great scenery to ride around in. Best of luck to you and welcome to the addiction.

ParticipantGlad you took the course. I took it in July and had never ridden any more than a mini bike on the beach. Other than riding a bicycle which is one of my hobbies. I bought the Vulcan 500 and I love it. I wanted to get something way affordable like the Honda Rebel but was advised by many that I would not be wise to highway commute on something that small. So I ended up with the Vulcan 500, pleanty of power, light weight, comfortable seat position, great mpg, and affordable. The chain is messy though, I know the V-Star is a shaft drive but cost more.
Feel free to message any questions specific to the Vulcan 500.
