    “Uncommon” might be bad word choice…maybe I should go with having an accident is a minority

    hmmmm ….my favorite thing to do…. the stats say ” 1 in 4 people can wiggle their ears without touching them”…. now…. go find 4 people and see how many actually can……..
    Amazing the difference between real life and statistical mumbo jumbo….. if you like to ride and want to ride then do so. Do not be fooled into thinking it can or will go one way or another…. pay attention to what you do and the things others do around you to minimize the risks. Other then that enjoy your life, enjoy your ride and leave the numbers to the guys that are making this stuff up.

    I was just sharing some stats that I thought were surprising in favor of us riders. Am I over-analyzing? Didn’t mean to push the bounds.

    There’s no reason not to look at all of the information you can get your hands on, as long as you’re reasonable and you recognize the flaws in certain arguments. I don’t really think there is such a thing as over-analyzing, as long as you’re analyzing correctly.

    LOL…sorry I should apologize I guess. A lot of times I have a sever overdose of sarcasm and raw humor, and forget it rarely translates well into text. Yesterday I was also in rare form. Anything you can find to give you some personal comfort in riding is a good thing. Just don’t allow it to give you a false sense of security.

    YEAH! APOLOGIZE YOU JERK!

    haha, just kidding. I always appreciate your comments, even the sarcastic ones. It’s good to have people like you around because if I always got the answer I was expecting I wouldn’t learn anything new. You are right about the stats, they are just numbers. They don’t make riding any safer or more dangerous. I was just sharing because the amount of crashes were lower than I thought they would be. Guess I should have titled this thread “Riding Has Fewer Crashes Than I Thought!”

    I used to read the stats like these when I first started riding. I totally understand. I just keep it all in perspective now and don’t rely on them to give me any real answers. But I did read that people wearing white helmets had the lowest number of deaths on a motorcycle, so I got a white helmet.

    If I’m riding a motorcycle instead of a car, that means I’m not in a hurry. Trouble comes when you try to make an aggressive move to save time. Don’t! The near misses I’ve had in a car have sometimes been because I was in a hurry to get somewhere. On a bike, slow down, and enjoy the scenery! And for goodness sake, leave a big margin of safety. Trouble occurs if you have to slam on the brake.

    And I mean Never:

    * Ride tired.
    * Ride angry.
    * Ride in a hurry.

    I wonder what the article said about a gray helmet.

    My bike doesn’t have a clock, and I think there’s a reason other than no space….well, that’s what I tell myself anyways. I still attach a wrist watch to the handlebars so I can be back home in time to take care of the kids so hubby can go to work…….

    Statistically, riders with pink helmets have a 0.5% less chance of getting killed because a cager didn’t see them, however their odds of being killed in a tavern with a pink helmet rise over 50% as compared to a black one… :p

    I know what you mean, I was going to crack a joke about how diverisfying your modes of transportation actually reduces your risk, but I don’t think it would translate well. :)

    Hmm… I don’t think that can be quite right… Was there a break down by gender? I would think that having a pink helmet would increase your odds of getting a date in a tavern… ;)
