Participant…make sure you sit on the bike with BOTH feet on the pegs. The dealer (or some one else that knows what they’re doing) can hold te bike upright so you can do this. Believe me, it COMPLETELY changes how that feels. Instead of using your arms to hold yourself up, you can use your entire core, and it won’t feel nearly as “hunched over.” The SV650 is more of a standard, the SV650s something between a full-on sport/race and a standard.

ParticipantThe GSXR front end IS pretty much a bolt-on, but it includes the WHOLE front end, with calipers, brake lines, top and bottom triples, front wheel… Might set you back $400 or so if you keep the front end you have (could sell to recupe some of the cost). I could be wrong though — this is all theoretical knowledge, I haven’t actually DONE the swap.
And as fas as I know, you can add the SV front fairing, stays, and gage supports to the naked, keeping your ergo’s intact. At least I know it can (and has been fairly often) on the 2nd gens. I thought 1st gens had the same capability.

ParticipantWhy not just go with a fork and shock upgrade on your SV? GSXR fork (so I hear) is a HUGE improvement, and a ZX-14 (?) rear shock improves the back end.
Also, you can stay with the SV naked bars/risers and still add the fairing.
Ask these kinds of questions on the SVRider.com board and see what they have to say about these upgrades.
I’ve read some reviews on the FZ6, and while the engine was derived from the R6, it’s been seriously retuned for more power down low. I’d say if you really want to consider that bike, take one for a test ride.

ParticipantGive her a quick “Hi” when you pass through…
I’d love to get there and ride those roads. Careful, though — Skamania county sherriff’s can be pretty hard-nosed.

ParticipantMy point was that you’d have signals at two heights in front. That is a problem (per the FMVSS). Also, each signal has to have a lighted area of 3.5 square inches (which works out to a circle of 2.1″ diameter). Must be amber in front, and can be either amber or red in back.
Don’t get me started on reflectors…

ParticipantThe FMVSS and various state regulations say that the turn signals need to be “at the same level” from the ground (meaning all the fronts at the same level, and all the rears at the same level).
Remember, MOST aftermarket mods don’t comply with the laws, so be careful.

ParticipantThe Pass switch turns on the high beams without turning off the low beams (which the beam selector switch DOES), so that you warn the car in front of you that you’re going to make a pass.
The Mode selector changes the power delivery somewhat to make the ride “safer” in certain conditions.

Participant…it was almost 6 months before I got onto a highway. I worked my way up from local roads in the subdivision, to longer routes, steadily increasing the radius, and finally getting on the highway itself. Now, it’s not such a big deal.

ParticipantI actually didn’t get a chance to ride on Friday. No, I was stuck behind slow moving cars on Saturday…

ParticipantI’m not one to be looking at bikes in each category. Cruisers? Meh. Dual sports? No thanks. But I’d probably go for a Buell 1125R, a BMW sport-tourer (the K1300GT?), or the Concourse, a Wakan (because they just look cool!), and a project or two. I think of taking something like the new Honda Fury and putting a flat seat on it, rear sets, and a front fairing…
Yeah, I’m a sport bike kind of guy.

ParticipantLots of 1st gen owners there that could give some insight.

ParticipantTraveling light, just me, a change or two of clothes, the bike, and a credit card with a LOT of room left on it. And no end date looming a week away.

ParticipantNo. Actually her husband and sons all rode, so it’s something she’d done before. Got back in her car, told me to take a few minutes before I got going again… I kept telling her I rally hadn’t gotten trapped at all, that I just stepped off it and set it down easy.

Participant…and couldn’t get it back up. Took a couple tries at it, but couldn’t get it. couldn’t get it transitioned that last bit to hold it up. A lady stopped to help — she was maybe 60 years old. Between the two of us we got it upright…

ParticipantWhy the elitist attitude?
