Hello. I was hoping some of you can help with my future first motorcycle purchase. A little background about me, I’m 24 years old 6′ 4″ 250lbs living in Denver and everything i know about motorcycles has came from “research” I’ve done in the last 6 weeks. I would like to buy a bike for Monday-Friday commuting to and from work about 50-75 miles a week. I’m looking for something light and simple with great MPG that i can more or less sit upright on comfortably(I’m tall and heavy), like a standard or naked bike. I don’t really care too much about speed or looking cool just something fun and practical. Some bikes I’ve been looking at are the Buell Blast, GS500, SV650, Gladius, Hyosung GT250, United Motors V2S 250, etc. I’ve been leaning towards the Buell Blast, GS500, or the Hyosung because of the price and MPG but have heard some cons about them (Buell Blast vibration and tranny, GS500 cold weather starts, Hyosung unreliability). Hope to hear some advice. Thanks

I’ve heard the SV ride position is slightly hunched which i’m not sure i would like. I still have to actually shop around and sit on some bikes so this all can change. oh yea, i’ll be taking the BRC within the month before i actually buy a bike.

The dealer (or some one else that knows what they’re doing) can hold te bike upright so you can do this. Believe me, it COMPLETELY changes how that feels. Instead of using your arms to hold yourself up, you can use your entire core, and it won’t feel nearly as “hunched over.” The SV650 is more of a standard, the SV650s something between a full-on sport/race and a standard.

If you are worried about the forward leaning riding position, look into a 00-06 Suzuki Bandit 600, they are more upright and cheap to find used.
