If there is no traffic I would go after a couple of minutes. Usually I just turn around and go a different way cause no way in hell is my ninja 250 gonna trigger the light to change. The safe bet is to just take a detour and enjoy the couple of extra minutes of drive time. Very informative post megaspaz, definatly gonna try the magnet.
bob250ParticipantI know where you’re coming from with the regret at not getting a bigger bike but that will pass. I liked the rebel I used at my MSF class. Granted we didn’t get out of third gear but I thought it was a fun bike. If I coulda found a used one I woulda got it.
bob250ParticipantDamn you gravity! Damn you to hell…
bob250ParticipantTell anyone giving you a hard time to go eat a shit sandwich. You won’t get bored with a 250. You will get +60mpg. You will have fun. You will learn to ride safe. The only way i would get a bigger bike is if someone else bought it for me.
bob250ParticipantBig difference. Your R6 can make way more power. I’m 5’11 210lbs and I have a Ninja 250. I use mine everyday for my 2 mile ride to work. You would enjoy the 250 but but sit on those two 500’s. I think their power output is not as scary as your yammie.
bob250ParticipantI kinda see where WeaponZero is coming from. A 250 is not going to be able to do what a 650 can in terms of available power at speed (if I’m wrong, please don’t crucify me). A Ninja 250 is all I’ve ridden, albeit a short while, and I already want to upgrade to a 500 or 650 for the highway. The 250 will do 85mph all day long with no problem (Budd got that one) but I would hate to need more power in a hurry if the occasion arose. I’ve had no problems riding highways but I wouldn’t go on any interstate on a 250. So Biannca, whatever bike you get enjoy the heck out of it and be safe.
bob250ParticipantGet yourself a 250 and don’t listen to the “600” guys. You will have more fun on a 250 than you can shake a stick at. Good luck with your msf class. Ride safe.
bob250Participantyou should play the lotto, you lucky dog:)

September 22, 2008 at 3:43 pm in reply to: Considering a new 250 Ninja, I’ve got questions for 250 Ninja owners…….. #12489bob250Participant1) I pay about $30 a month with state farm in Florida. I have full coverage on the bike. Displacement is a factor as is age, driving record, etc. A ninja 500 would have run me around $45 a month.
2) 70mph around 8 or 9k rpm. At that speed the wind is almost louder than the engine. Not alot of vibration and to me it is comfortable. I’m 5’11 210lbs. Cross winds will move the bike so be real careful.
3) The only thing I’ve had done so far is the 600mile maintenance and that was around $130. $70 of that was labor so I’m gonna be doing my own oil, chain lube, etc myself. I am not looking forward to finding out how much tires are.
4) The bike in town has no problems. Plenty of juice to get out of its own way. On the highway you still have some throttle left but not much.
5) I got my ’08 used and the guy said he broke it in according to book, which I think has you under 40mph and 4k rpm for the first 50 miles. All in all the ninja 250 is a great first bike but I kinda wish I would have gotten the 500 for the highway.
bob250ParticipantRecalls are something I look into when buying a car. Guess I was too excited about the bike to even care.

September 21, 2008 at 2:42 pm in reply to: Any info out there on how to be a good motorcycle passenger? #12450bob250ParticipantI think I drive the bike pretty well for a noob, with and without my wife on the the back. I am just wondering if there is any advice out there on how to be a passenger on a bike. Months before I took the MSF I would constantly be searching for vids on “how to ride a motorcycle” and there are tons of lessons on youtube on the subject. The pickins are slim when it comes to advice on how to be a passenger. I am trying to get my wife to take the MSF herself. I think if one knows how to ride a motorcycle then that person would be an ideal passenger. I was also wondering if maybe a cruiser would make a better bike for two up?
bob250ParticipantIf you have a short reach then you are probably going to be leaning forward on a 250 ninja. Try sitting on the ninja 500. I liked the feel of the 500 as far as the seat and riding position but got a good deal on a used 08 250. I would say go for the used 250. It will handle your needs and you’ll be able to sell it for about what you payed when and if you outgrow it.
