September 21, 2008 at 2:35 pm in reply to: Any info out there on how to be a good motorcycle passenger? #12449smokeizfire
ParticipantA friend of mine said he almost got into an accident because a passenger wouldn’t lean with him in turns. So, that formed a question in class yesterday. What should you tell a passenger whop has never ridden before. Lean with it, Rock with it(for those rap music listeners)….no seriously. The instructor said that you should have a conversation with the passenger before you ride. Tell them “…when I move you move…just like that…” She said having some one over lean in turns could be problem as well. Just go with the flow young grasshopper.

Participantin which I only paid $600 or so. Frankly, I think it was because of a clean driving record. My car insurance was double that for the year(The neighborhood I live in doesn’t help, at all). My car cost around $15,000.(excluding APR). My bike was only around $4000 out the door($4400 including gear) As much as the car is driven, $60 to $70 is a fair number to throw out there for weekly fuel expenses. If I rode as much as the car was driven, I still cannot see coming close to spending that much on the bike vs. the car. As for services, I have yet to find out the comparison between bike vs. car. However, with those numbers I’ve mentioned I could have had 3 of my bikes for the price of 1 car. I think if specific cars were compared to specific bikes, some bikes may be more expensive to own(like a touring Harley for example which cost about as much as a car anyway). But if we are generalizing cars vs. bikes, a bike is the cheaper way to go. But hey, any form of transportation other than public is never cheap.

ParticipantI meant to tell you that I misread the ‘cruiser magazine’ article. It said it would “…reach 60 mph…”, not “…60 mpg….” Big difference. However, I still disagree with anything less than 50 mpg on the city streets. And, if you do decide to purchase the GV250, research the dealer as much as you can. There are quite a few Hyosung dealers here in S California. I haven’t had any problems thus far, so I’m only saying this because this seems like the company’s Achilles heel. Good luck in whatever you choose. Virago or GV. Just be safe out there.

Participant…you would have had to been around for ……oh ummm, about 30 years. Don’t you agree Megaspaz?

ParticipantUh, just in case you missed that part of the text. I understood every ones points, and freedom of choices. I pointed out 1 error made that had nothing to do with the quality of Hyosung’s GT. I wouldn’t call 30 years over the hill. However, I emphatically disagree with the notion that 30 years can be considered new in anything. Can a company be old, but bad? Good, but new? Exactly! That’s not even the point. Oh, so what was the point of your post again?

ParticipantIm Smokey and Im on my 3rd week of riding on a permit. This weekend, the MSF course is on schedule. I do a lot of riding though, but stay within the restrictions of my permit. So no freeway yet, but will soon. Im on 1 month of owning a Hyosung GV250. I am proud of my 250 cruiser with good reason to be. I rate everything great. So far so good.

ParticipantThe article is for the 05 model year. They’re not even called Alphasports anymore.` There is plenty of up to date info and opinions on the GV250(if you google). United Motors distributes the GV250 as well. They are all still manufactured by Hyosung Motors.

Participant200 miles divided by 3.7 gallons should end you up with 54.054054 miles in total. Only about 6 or 7 miles less than a ninja(which is probably a little lighter. At least those will be 54 comfortable and stylish miles. LOL
