I wish it was only 25 minutes… I forgot that I was on hold… listening to music…
Sed8MeParticipantWelcome from another SoCal’er
Sed8MeParticipantHere in California, I have seached the DMV site top to bottom and can not figure out how long the instructional permit is good for… a year? 6 months?
Sed8MeParticipantNow I feel like a total noob… highside, lowside pretty self explanatory if I had of just thought about it… ( “and why does my gas pedal make the bike go slower?”)
Sed8MeParticipantHey Weapon, glad you are okay… this post raises some questions/comments from me:
1) What does “highside” mean?
2) I dont even have my learners permit yet, and I think I need a proper riding jacket and gloves right away
3) any know if in California you need to ride with an experience rider “nearby”?Sed8MeParticipantMy boys love going in the garage and looking at the bike… so I thought a photo op was called for. Nicholas (giving a thumbs up) is only 4, and small for his age… when he had the helmet on he could barely stop himself from falling over!
Sed8MeParticipantWow… if you don’t work for the paper maybe you should!
Since I am newer to street bikes than you are I won’t offer any advice, but as a father I wanted to compliment you on your maturity level. You have taken such a unemotional view of motorcycle riding and selection that I am sure you will make the right decision.
Trust what the guys/gals here tell you, Munch had advised me to go with the 500R rather than the Vulcan 900 as my first bike, and I do very much appreciate that advice, as I am sure I would not feel comfortable with the 900 right now and would be suffering from buyers remorse…
Sed8MeParticipantHey Congrats! I just bought the same bike on Saturday.. pretty much for the same reasons!
And the center stand, dont feel bad I am a big guy and I dont find the center stand easy to use.
Sed8MeParticipantSed8MeParticipantSed8MeParticipantSed8MeParticipantMan was I glad to read this post, I thought they were BS’ing me when I made the comment at the dealership that I had not even had a test drive (as we were sitting to sign the papers)
Sed8MeParticipantNow I feel better about my choice… bought my first bike yesterday, and got them to throw in a helmet free… told them that the $70 did not fit, so they threw in the $110 one…
btw, was that a big bug?
Sed8MeParticipantWell, I used to have an RM 125 that was modified for dirt racing… but I only raced against friends and family on my older brothers farm… and that was more than 15 years ago!
Thanks for your advice… I think in the end I will end up going with the Ninja 500 for a few reasons… cost and size being two big reasons… I just have to remember that this is my “first” street bike… and by first I need to remember it wont be my last!
regards,
