I think I stirred up some heated arguments on the other forums. Yes, the Rebel250 forum can be “cultish.”
Got the tire fixed today and had my clutch adjusted. She fires right up in any gear now. The clutch had way too much play and the sensor was not picking it up.
So all is well. I rode it back home and of course me being me, I tried to lean her far. ZOMG it felt nice and stable, unlike my little Rebel. I guess some weight is good on a bike.
Anyways, I really enjoy my Vstar thoroughly. The 6 weeks on the Rebel definitely helped me understand the simple mechanics, and physics of riding. I probably wont be as good as a lot of riders, but for as long as I am safe and ride the bike in a manner within my own abilities, I will have no problems.
Sangria7ParticipantI was just sharing..he really didnt concern me, he just amused me LOL
Thanks for you support Munch..I intend to ride my Vstar like a high class hooker with silicone implants. Sorry for the pun.
Sangria7ParticipantIt basically an after market add on that allows you to use the throttle with a palm attachment. You push down on the palm attachment and the throttle rocks.
Sangria7ParticipantYa very good point….thanks.
I am opting not to take them then…as I travel 610 LOL.
Sangria7ParticipantWOW I am getting flamed on the Rebel boards LOL
Sangria7ParticipantBeautiful bike there Smoke!
By the way, the 2009 Vstar does not want to shift past Neutral when its not fired up. I can only shift when the engine is actually running. Also I cannot start the engine unless it is in neutral, I tried it several times.
So two things:
1. No starts unless in Neutral.
2. No shifting past Neutral unless engine is on.I will confirm with Dealer though tomorrow.
Sangria7ParticipantWOOT!!
Sangria7ParticipantI will ask them, about starting in 1st. I’ll try again and see. I couldnt fire her up. Maybe ill ask the dealer when I take her back to get a new tire.
Sangria7ParticipantI highly recommend it. It seems to be just as agile as my Rebel 250, and like I said turning seems easier. But then again it could just be me.
Sangria7ParticipantAnd the pictures
]Sangria7ParticipantI took the bike today and some heavily traffic routes as well as twisties. The bike actually felt much better in terms of handling than my Rebel. Seems like the heavier and lower center of gravity helps a lot. I feel really comfortable with it. My 650 miles on my Rebel was 80% interstate in the Houston which is known to be 4th worst traffic to drive in the USA.
Bottomline, I dont feel intimidated by it one bit and actually feel much better riding. I am by no means an expert rider, but I personally felt ready for a bigger bike. The only thing I do not like on the Vstar is that it will not start on 1st gear. It has to be in neutral.
Anyways, I just got a flat after my ride today. My rear tire hit a nail, and my rear was completely flat. Fortunately, I was like within 1/2 mile of an Autozone was able to get a Fix-a-flat to get me back home. Sucks I have to wait till Tuesday, when the dealer opens to get it fixed.
BTW I got flamed on the Rebel 250 forums for getting a biker bike so soon – I just thought it was pretty funny how some people just flame away.
Sangria7ParticipantMeh I just financed it..out door with everything + free engine guards and trailer tie downs it came to $130/month.
Wasnt too bad. I spend that much on gas for my truck every 2 weeks.November 1, 2008 at 1:45 pm in reply to: Motorcycles more deadly than the war in iraq to marines… #14500Sangria7ParticipantAnd those Birtish Army Videos hit the spot.
Being former US Army myself, we had a lot of riders on base. The moment they came out of the base, these guys were reckless. My assumption is that they are dying under thier circumstances they put themselves into.
Combat is dangerous, but there is a certain controlled environment to it. Soldiers/Marines dont want to get shot and a lot more cautious – and the continous training they get kicks in – and they are under combat command and control.
But riding on a motorcycles Soldiers/Marines, tend to do a lot of speeding, stunting, and just downright stupid things (as that video dipicts).
The MPs used to put up DUI/DWI blockades in front of the base at random times, and you would be amazed how many get caught.
Lastly, because of the hardcore training they get, marines/soldiers are taught they “invincible”. Just listen to the cadences and training modules. They taught to act in under any circumstance. So by nature, many soldiers/marines tend to be a little more “over confident.”
My point is it is not the bike that is killing them, it is their own actions on the bikes.
Sangria7ParticipantListen to the wisdom….smaller CC is better unless you have experience already or if you are willing to take the chance on a bigger bike.
Sangria7ParticipantDagger – what city do you live in? That MSF schedule looks familiar.
