I’ve been looking at the xena xr-1 alarm disk lock myself. There’s also the sirenpadlock sp302. These go into the disk brake themselves.

Edit: Sorry. didn’t look at the link carefully enough… thought it was a bike lock…

If i plan on riding my motorcycle anywhere, I’ll gear up. Always a leather jacket, air mesh pants for shorter rides, leather pants for long rides (if i feel like putting leather pants on), gloves, riding boots, etc. Generally, though if i’m going anywhere that’s a mile or less, I’ll walk or just cage it over there depending on where I’m going and if I need to bring stuff back with me.

Edit: When wearing leathers, I put on thin coolmax, moisture wicking under shirt and pants – long sleeve tee and long pants/leggings. Basically think spandex… Works great for keeping you cool while you sweat if you’re wearing perforated leathers and makes taking off your leathers a breeze.

Mine needs a cleaning… Apparently, I was told that the chain isn’t supposed be blackish at all, but more of a silverish color… I always thought chains were black… :-/

If any one cares, I’d be delighted to detail my progress in subsequent posts.

Are they going to be novels like this one? :-P

    I KEEED, I KEEED…

Congrats on deciding on a bike. Now get some gear (I’m wondering how long it’ll take you to decide on what gear to get)… :-P

Try doing a trackday. You get to go real fast on some real turns with wide lanes and no trees, cliffs, animals, cross traffic, etc. to worry about…

sure. This was on a whim though… I literally just decided to go right after I got out of the shower. So we should have a more concrete way of contact, probably involving exchanging cell numbers. There’s a couple of roads I’ve been hearing about, like 84 to livermore which is at the 680 end of calaveras, but I’m not too up on roads here in cali, and when you get to the tri-valley, it gets really hot over there. I’m really kinda itching for another BBM thing, but this weekend and next weekend’s bad as I have committments on the sat. and sun. of each of those weeks. Anyhoo, I should let you know that if you’re looking for spirited back road riding, I won’t do it. I’m more of a mellow pace kinda rider, especially so on roads I’ve never been on before, so you might be bored riding with me…

if you’re talking about the sv650 as in the unfaired model, then not only will there be less (no) damaged plastic if you drop the bike, but also the gxr650f weighs considerably more than both the sv650 and sv650s/sv650sf.. about 100lbs more. IIRC, the gxr650 is basically just the katana which, iirc, is an inline 4 which also generally makes it easy to goose the throttle which could result in a bad day for a noob.

If all you’re doing is putting on a slip on, you won’t need to rejet. If you do the full exhaust you will. I’ve talked to a couple of people and was actually told don’t bother with the rejetting. it’s not needed… So unless you’re gonna get a full exhaust replacement, I wouldn’t even worry about it.

I’ve heard and seen countless riders talk about late apexing (delayed apexing) in canyon roads. A couple of them do it all the time. Hough recommends it on canyon roads as well. I’d go as far as to say learn and practice trail braking. Very useful for double apex and sharp decreasing radius turns. But everything still pretty much depends on your turn entry speed. You just need to get that down.

Thanks. It’s getting there. I think it’ll be pretty much done once I get my pazzo shorties. I have to agree, Suzuki doesn’t do itself any favors on thier website with these bikes. I really should learn photography or something, because when I do remember to bring my camera, everything still seems kind of ‘eh’ to me…

I kinda wish there were more pics in this forum from other people’s rides, adventures, etc. as well… ;-)

I mean it’s as if riding a scooter magically makes you impervious to getting hurt if you crash into something at 45 mph, or get asspacked, or run off the road… Didn’t make sense to me before I started riding, and doesn’t make sense to me after I started riding. Whenever I saw a scooter rider, riding with just an open faced helmet, I always thought, man it’s really gonna suck for them if they take a dive while motoring about…. I dunno, though, I’m just a product of public edumacation…

I always try to steer all new riders to a 250… I haven’t forgotten any of my mistakes starting on a 650cc nor do I think I ever will… Especially with the 2 drops… I don’t think it’s something you forget. If you’re really, really got your heart set on bigger than 500cc bike, I will recommend an SV650 because I ride one and it’s a joy to ride once you learn how to control it… And then a 650r second… I only recommend these bikes because of the even power distribution on the throttle (v-twin/p-twin characteristics). I don’t know much about standard or cruiser 650s, but most everyone I’ve come across are more interested in the sport style bikes anyways (natch). But anyhoo, just get a ninja 250. Get an old one. Basically, from 1989(???)-2007, they’re pretty much the same machine. Build your confidence, coordination, and experience and just do it… or not… :-P

Just saying since I think I remember you not really crossing it off your list for anything except availability, which I still think you should be able to find something out there used. YMMV.
