Participantthe first gen does indeed have more grunt and pull in the low end. A potential problem with the 2nd gen occurs when the front rods bust. This happens though for those svs used heavily for track/racing. A common replacement is to actually use the 1st gen front rods or slap on some carillos. The only other thing you can do is to keep the oil level on the high side at all times, if you don’t feel like undertaking rod replacement. So keep this in mind if you’re buying used and the bike was used primarily for track/racing.

Participantpadding in the helmet will loosen over time. it happens. a perfectly fitting helmet brand new might not fit so snug after 6 months of continuous riding. Either replace the padding or get some foam weather stripping and add judiciously underneath the padding.

ParticipantYeh. I’m in the bay area, but the tracks aren’t. The tracks in the vid where i do most of my playing is Sears Point and Thunderhill. Sears is in sonoma and thunderhill is in willows, ca… around sacto.

ParticipantQuote:The much stronger and taller/bigger SV feels like it’s just one small throttle mistake away from disaster on a very technical road. On those roads I can ride the GS harder, faster, feel more in control and have more fun.eh. bzzzt. wrong. that is all.

ParticipantActually that’s a benefit since most people suck at rights more than lefts.

Participantgetting rid of chicken strips is overrated. you can be plenty fast and still have chicken strips on the tires. check out the tires of your club racers next time. if you’re goal is to get rid of chicken strips, sanding ’em down is the safest way to get rid of them.

ParticipantDon’t know if this fits into what you’d be looking for in an SV, but the first gen SVs have better pull in the lower power band than the second gens. That’s one of the main reasons why racers here who race SVs prefer to use the first gen SVs because they pull so much better out of slower corners or corners where you would short shift up a gear.

Participantum… you don’t use brakes at the track on a ninja 250… normally, it’s less brakes more throttle, but for the ninja 250, it’s no brakes all throttle! again, i’m half kidding… but srsly, you keep that ninja 250 wound up as much as possible. if you brake, you lose any momentum you got with that bike. The reason why them racers and instructors are so farking fast, is the fact they brake very little and absolutely blaze through the whole damn corner.
