meh- don’t dismiss a bike because she’s a girl- you’d need more information before one can approximate if a bike is too heavy or not.
IxecapadeParticipantlol fair enough… that sucks for sales guy!
not all heels are tractionless though trust me on that
IxecapadeParticipantMirrored visors tend to scratch retardely easily.
Get the ones that are practical first and you need them and save the shiny ones for a hanging out and looking cool.
I konw some people who ride with light tint at night- but personally I wouldn’t do it- any tint during the day is fine- but carry a spare or just use the clear.
I have super sensitive eyes after eye surgery (even what 5/6 years later?) which isn’t a problem- just alway have sunglasses- and I find my helmet cuts way more glare than you would think even without some extra glare cutting devices (some people put a strip or two of electrical tape across the top of the visor.
I haven’t gotten any tinted ones yet- I’m a little penny poor these days.
EDIT
OH YEAH- congrats on the bike- keep the rubber on the road!
IxecapadeParticipantkickstand not being down- I was so nervous after my first big ride to the DMV I didn’t double check and i wasn’t as familiar with getting the stand down. lol didn’t lose it but ALMOST did.
and I still randomly stall occasionally at lights
and not enough throttle into a slow turn means you tip over at 0-2 mph and look like a jackass.
and whats the deal with heels on the bike? whys that an oops thing?
IxecapadeParticipantjesus
that fricking cool
IxecapadeParticipantglad you are okay!!!
most everyone is a distracted driver. texting is just as bad as anything else- personally I think there are ways to multitask and mitigate risk- but it’ll never be safe.
and I’m a textaholic- I text more than I talk. I work in a job thats difficult to talk at due to noise levels…
my roommate/best friend works for the miliatary and she can’t pick up her phone.
I don’t check voicemail I don’t like checking it…. text is way more convinenent… I do call people and I have friends who would rather talk- but its just whats easiest for my life. When I was dating my last, we were 4 hours apart and it was just easier- but we tried to talk on the phone at almost every day cause we texted throughout the day… but we always tried to talk. Shrug it needs to be balanced with real human interaction.
IxecapadeParticipantI’ve seen a few bikes on sidewalks here- I always figured I might when I finally got around to riding… but I don’t- i park fairly far away from heavy traffic.
I just picked up a cable lock that I’ll be using for the bikes- lock them at home together and then I’ll lock it around the frame through the wheel when I’m out…. its simple but its better than nothing and its a step up from what I want and on my way to a disc lock/alarm.. which is what I really want- I figure if they really want it they’ll take it no matter what
jacket and helmet go with me EVERYWHERE. just can’t justify leaving it.. shivies me out
IxecapadeParticipantOne of my best friends whose been riding for forever told me if I could afford a FI get one. He said they are smoother- esp for a beginner rider.
I am not convinced of that- my only experiance is I have FI and my roommates is carbed. I do personally think mine runs smoother- and it certianly sounds smoother… I haven’t ridden her’s enough to really give a competent comparison- others here might be able to better speak to that.
IxecapadeParticipantits 150 if u are U21? wow thats bushleague! I would have thought it would have been more expensive for younger folks! interesting- learn something new every day!
IxecapadeParticipantlove it! what a great colour combination! you win!
IxecapadeParticipantI lived 3 miles up a dirt road… I wouldn’t take a ninja 250 on it… sheeeee’t thats why my dad sold the vet- it wouldn’t hold up to that.
Most 3 mile long dirt roads AREN”T well maintained unless they are fireroads or something a larger entity is paid to mantain it as such. If it was a properly placed DGA/RCA/asphalt milling/ road- yes it could be very well held up- even for a private road- but I doubt 3 miles of private road was so meticulously placed- its super expensive.
Most privately owned/shared roads (ours wasn’t privately owned- we all beat it to death and many of us tried to help maintain it so yeah “maintain” takes on a whole new meaning) …are not made of the finest materials- just whats there- and they aren’t super well maintained (if you’re’s is- then clearly this need not apply- but for sake of discussion) and NO it would not be an appropriate choice Could it- sure but you’d regret it immediately. Find a way to keep it off the road for the most part- (friends garage/storage etc etc) or get a dual sport- I think you would be wincing every time you took it out. and no one wants that!
IxecapadeParticipantoh stop crying about how cold it is!!! lol
its hasn’t really gotten about 32 all week and I’m up to almost 3 feet of snow!!!
welcome!
And hell yeah to the jeeps!!! I used to get dropped off in an old ass beater pickup- it was very akward- esp an old diesel that spat black flames when you cranked it over but when I finally got to drive and seniors could leave for lunch on fridays- it was way cooler ot have wheels than not. I’ll take a beater any day as long as it drives and its a manual!
Good luck with finding the bike- go sit on everything you’ll find your bike- the size issue isn’t as big of a thing as you think.
IxecapadeParticipantI like blood and guts (death race- boondock saints- 300 etc etc) but i don’t like scary
I have paranoia issues with stuff like that-partly due to the fact I sleep like the dead and I can’t hear for shit when I’m asleep (so much so I left music on- woke up- glanced around the room and had the full cognizant though- who the fuck turned off my music-before I finally heard it) So yeah- I’m always sweating things like that so I just choose to not and try to get some sleep like a normal person.
IxecapadeParticipantjesus christ- yeah i don’t know why he ran BACk across but shit. wow. good for him!

I haven’t hit the major freeways *yet* too much damn snow/ice at this point to even make it out of the complex… totlaly keeping an eye on this for the next months.
One thing too that someone and I were discussing this week was practicing riding while your driving.
All of these things can be practiced to improve your situationational awareness while you are driving- so instead of just shutting off and getting from point A to point B…. drive proactively- I personally practice onramps and off ramps since we tend to brake through a turn in a vehicle- its habit. I try every time to downshift and deccelerate to a speed to safely negotiate WHAT I CAN SEE… which is annyoing in a truck when I know I can go faster- but I stick to it just for practice and I do my best to never brake through a turn now. Just a little thing to help me when I’m on two wheels.
Being situationally aware takes work and practice- and if you don’t phsycially have to worry about getting run over you can really hone your skills at that by eliminating some outside issues and concentrating on the one thing. I personally find it VERY helpful- but I’m a very visual/hands on person so any extra practice I find to be super helpful lol.
